Students were excited to receive their own personal copies of the text in which they were free to highlight and annotate key events in Anne's life. Having their own copies allowed students to take their main resource home where they could delve into the text while addressing higher order thinking skills and many students came to class ready for in depth discussions. Many students were surprised by the conditions that Anne and her family were forced to live in while in hiding. \r\n Having the books allowed students to engage with a primary source from the time period that we were studying. Students were able to take ownership of the text by reading 10-15 pages at a time during independent reading. As a result, students contributed well to rich conversations about the parallels in Anne's diary and other texts that were presented in this unit. Many of my students wrote about how they could relate to many of the struggles that Anne faced as an adolescent and they were able to connect some of her experiences to their own. I think that your contribution to my class was invaluable and I will be forever grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1756915967561,"projectUrl":"project/remembering-the-holocaust/9398881/","projectTitle":"Remembering the Holocaust","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mahone","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10050826"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_110096","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":500,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":82,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":110096,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Michelle Obama School of Technology and the Arts on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Michelle Obama School of Technology and the Arts","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/park-forest-chicago-hgt-school-district-163/michelle-obama-school-tech-arts/110096"}
