One of the smaller projects is Social Studies based. In order to teach about the drafting of the Constitution, I created a mock Constitutional Convention that allows students to dive deep into the historical context and understand the perspectives of different delegates. The materials that were funded from Donors Choose for this include the quill pens and the tea lights so we can recreate the atmosphere of 1787, making the experience more authentic. The students also assume the role of a delegate that was present at the convention. The students color in masks of their delegate's face in order to represent them. The Colors of the World markers, crayons, and colored pencils will be used for this so that the students can accurately color in the masks. This hands-on approach not only makes learning fun but also promotes empathy and understanding of historical viewpoints. Another smaller project within this larger project is for my science classes. Each April, I celebrate Earth Week in my classroom by having the students research different areas of conservation to improve the Earth. The stickers will be used to incentivise this unit. The materials you requested, such as stopwatches, China marker grease pencils, bold chalk markers, thin Sharpies, and masking tape, are essential for conducting hands-on labs throughout the year. These tools will not only enhance your students' scientific inquiry but also encourage collaboration and creativity as they engage in experiments and investigations. I also requested the science word search book to include in our resource packets by investigation for something to keep students engaged while they wait for their peers to finish their work. The Amazon wipes will also be used to clean up lab spaces upon completion of experiments in class. In this current teaching world, there are many students that struggle with anxiety, ADHD, or are diagnosed with autism that use fidgets to stay focused. While some students bring their own, there are others that do not and struggle with staying focused or engaged in tasks throughout the day. The Mindful Maze Garden Pack, Liquid Motion bubblers, suction bath toys, and suction robots requested provide a variety of sensory tools. This range of options allows students to explore different fidgets and find what works best for them, which can be crucial for maintaining concentration during lessons. It also allows me to create a more inclusive classroom environment that meets diverse needs. Another use to the materials is through classroom raffles and my team's student of the month celebration. As a part of my classroom behavior management, I will pass out tickets to students that exhibit positive behavior, engagement in class, helping others, etc. Some of the items will be raffled off in class. Some of the other materials will be used when my team recognizes student's monthly if they meet the criterion for the monthly category. We have the students participate in a game and then can win a prize from the prize box. Based on student interest and feedback, I chose the following items for the prizes (as well as the tickets): the Brain Teaser Puzzles, puzzle balls, maze pens, multicolor 6-in-1 pens, and snake puzzle fidgets. I also chose the desk drawer organizer to organize the prizes for easy access. Finally, the rest of the materials will be utilized in the classroom throughout the year. The classroom set of headphones will help the students that forget or are unable to afford them so that every student has access to them. The different cardstock packs and laminating pouches will be used for classroom activities so that they will last longer than one time use. The plastic storage bins will also be used to store these classroom activities. The dry erase markers, erasers and magnets/hooks will be used during instruction and student presentations. Lastly, I like to post a \"random fact of the day\" in my classroom. The book, \"365 AWESOME RANDOM USELESS FACTS: Amaze and Annoy others with Awesome Useless Knowledge Fun Facts and Trivia\" will be used to add facts to this to engage my students.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials began to arrive, the students' reactions were nothing short of amazing! They were genuinely thrilled and immediately asked if the supplies were for them, which demonstrated their enthusiasm for learning. It was heartwarming to see their excitement and curiosity; their faces lit up with anticipation. This excitement also opened up a wonderful conversation about the various activities and projects we'll be engaging in throughout the year. It encouraged them to ask questions and share their ideas about how we might use the new materials. This response not only set a positive tone for the year ahead but also highlighted the importance of hands-on materials in keeping students engaged and motivated. Overall, their enthusiasm reassured me that these resources will significantly enhance our classroom environment and learning experiences.\r\n\r\nThe materials have and will be used in a variety of ways, I do not currently have next steps at this time. My students and I are incredibly grateful for this opportunity and still in shock that it happened. Thank you SO much for your generosity and truly increasing the engagement of the variety of classroom experiences.","fullyFundedDate":1726541659080,"projectUrl":"project/enhancing-middle-school-science-social/8740336/","projectTitle":"Enhancing Middle School Science & Social Studies","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Morrice","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9730490"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_27945","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":755,"numTeachers":53,"percentFrplEligible":51,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":75,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":27945,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lincoln Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lincoln Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/mount-prospect-school-district-57/lincoln-middle-school/27945"}
