Because of your generosity, our little ones in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade were able to turn their imagined designs into real objects.\r\n\r\nThe first step in teaching our students about the engineering design process involved learning about and creating 3-dimensional shapes. They used these shapes to create models of interesting school buildings and fun playgrounds. The glue sticks and scissors we received from DonorsChoose, The Michael Jordan Brand, and Ripple made it possible for our students to cut and construct the objects they designed. Now, they are creating all kinds of useful and imaginative objects. Through a hands-on approach to learning, our students are discovering that engineers design solutions to take care of people, plants, and animals.\r\n\r\nThe glue sticks, scissors, colored pencils, and paper were organized into small trays and placed on the tables in the makerspace before the students arrived. When they entered the room, their faces were bright with smiles and excitement! They wanted to dig in and get started making their designs. They were so focused and productive! Some of the younger students struggled a bit with dexterity and fumbled while cutting with scissors. However, they were able to take their time and learn how to cut with precision because they did not need to share scissors with their tablemates. While we believe that sharing is caring, there are also times when sharing can interfere with the learning process. So, thank you for providing enough scissors and glue for each of our students!\r\n\r\nNext up, our students in 3rd through 8th grades will combine their knowledge of technology with 3D printing to create objects and explore the capabilities of computer-assisted design (CAD) software. They will also learn how to write computer code and program robots to perform tasks in our ongoing robotics lessons.\r\n\r\nOur makerspace is a place for learning and doing that the entire student body at Betty Shabazz Charter School uses on a daily basis. Thank you for helping us equip our makerspace with the supplies that ignite our students' curiosity, motivate their productivity, and support their learning as they apply concepts in science, math, engineering, and technology.","fullyFundedDate":1758202814682,"projectUrl":"project/stem-in-the-makerspace/9568930/","projectTitle":"STEM IN THE MAKERSPACE","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kelly","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10165952_orig.jpg?crop=2084,2084,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754773514065","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/drkshepard"},{"teacherId":8574958,"projectId":8636673,"letterContent":"I/we want to extend a huge THANK YOU for your donation to our classroom. We have also been enjoying the whiteboards during math. The students race to complete problems and hold up their boards showing off their work.
