Now that it is Black History Month, I couldn't think of a more appropriate time to begin reading this book. \r\nFor our novel study on this book, we will be integrating both social studies and language arts. Students will be able to learn new vocabulary through reading the book, as well as through background knowledge that they will receive prior to reading each chapter as part of their social studies lesson. The Great Depression and Jim Crow Laws are just a couple of topics we will be covering during social studies in order for students to gain some background knowledge before beginning to read \"Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry\". \r\nAs for the Language Arts portion of the novel study, there are so many skills we can practice. Comprehension skills will be the main focus, which is why my students will have to complete a comprehension worksheet for each chapter. We will also practice making connections to the text, analyze the main characters, determine the theme of the book, as well as work on our writing by having to respond to both long and short-response questions. \r\nMy students couldn't be anymore eager to begin this novel study, as it is about a topic that interests them the most.","fullyFundedDate":1730733533191,"projectUrl":"project/mrs-limns-bilingual-5th-grade-classro/8804131/","projectTitle":"Mrs. Limón's Bilingual 5th Grade Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Limon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9765954"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_28860","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":392,"numTeachers":37,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":25,"percentWhite":16,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":46,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"3 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":47.4,"schoolId":28860,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Prairie Trail School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Prairie Trail School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/gurnee-district-56/o-plaine-school/28860"}
