Your kindness and willingness to support the basic needs of our students have made a meaningful difference in their daily lives. Thanks to your thoughtful contributions, many students now feel more comfortable and empowered to focus on their education without worry.\r\n\r\nYour generosity reflects a true spirit of community and care, reminding us all how powerful collective action can be in fostering a supportive environment for young people. It's a small routine, but what happens next feels like magic.\r\n\r\nBefore the locker, phones were everywhere—buzzing in pockets, glowing under desks, pulling attention away from lessons and labs. Even my most focused students struggled against the constant temptation to check a notification. Group projects often turned into quiet silos, with students glancing at their screens instead of at each other. I knew my students were capable of so much more, but the phones stood in the way.\r\n\r\nThen, thanks to your generosity, everything changed.\r\n\r\nNow, as soon as the phones are tucked away, the energy in the room shifts. Students settle into their seats ready to learn. Discussions flow more easily. Lab groups jump right into their experiments. Without the distraction of a screen, their curiosity takes over. They ask more questions, share more ideas, and stick with problems longer before giving up. I've watched quiet students find their voices, and I've seen groups truly collaborate—leaning in, talking, laughing, and solving challenges together.\r\n\r\nThe difference in focus has been incredible. I no longer need to pause lessons to redirect wandering eyes. Instead, I hear students debating the best way to design an experiment or explaining concepts to one another. Their work is stronger, their writing is more thoughtful, and their ability to stay engaged through an entire class period has grown noticeably.\r\n\r\nBut what surprises me most is how much this locker has impacted relationships. Without phones as a buffer, students connect with each other in new ways. They look up, make eye contact, and engage in real conversations. Group work is more dynamic, and classroom discussions have a new spark. They're not just learning science—they're learning how to listen, how to collaborate, and how to build friendships that aren't filtered through a screen.\r\n\r\nThe classroom climate has also shifted. There's less conflict, less stress, and far fewer arguments about phone use. Expectations are clear: when you're in this space, you're fully present. And that presence has made the classroom calmer, kinder, and more respectful.\r\n\r\nWhat's even more meaningful is that students themselves are starting to recognize the benefits. I've heard comments like, \"I actually get more done now\" and \"It's easier to talk to people without my phone.\" They're realizing that stepping away from screens, even just for one class period, gives them room to think, connect, and grow.\r\n\r\nThis locker may look like a simple piece of classroom furniture, but it has become a powerful tool for teaching skills my students will carry into the future: managing distractions, staying present, and investing in real relationships. Those skills are just as important as any science concept we cover, and they're lessons your donation has made possible.\r\n\r\nSo from the bottom of my heart—and on behalf of every student who now walks into class ready to focus, engage, and connect—thank you. You didn't just fund a locker. You gave my students the gift of attention, collaboration, and true learning.","fullyFundedDate":1723468130160,"projectUrl":"project/less-cellmore-focus/8354957/","projectTitle":"Less Cell...More Focus","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Isaacs","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4000478_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1476386325416","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4000478"},{"teacherId":8864442,"projectId":8989281,"letterContent":"I am writing with immense gratitude for your generosity which provided my department with an extensive supply of snacks during last school year and the beginning of this school year. Being a social worker is a privilege which allows me facetime with many students during some of their most vulnerable moments. Being able to provide them with chips, candy, granola bars, Gatorade, Easy Mac, and other various snacks helps bridge the gap and motivate students to engage. \r\n\r\nThe joy on some of their faces last year was priceless when I started carrying my big bin of snacks to social work group. They could not believe that people donated the food for them to eat. For some students, asking for a snack was the start to them opening up more or increasing their willingness to even be in the social work space. \r\n\r\nWe are able to use the sour skittles, mints, and warheads to teach psychoeducation about how flavors can help regulate our nervous system. \r\n\r\nThe various storage bins are imperative for keeping any unwanted critters out. Without these donations, I would be funding all of the snacks out of my own pocket, and sometimes that just isn't manageable for the volume of students coming through our office. My response is almost always, that it just means they haven't found the right book yet. You are helping build that bridge between finding that \"right book\" and students identities as readers. \r\n\r\nI am excited to help introduce students to as many titles and genres of literature as I can. It seems silly that something as simple as a table and chairs could really change the feelings and motivation in a classroom but it really does. Your table allows for me to quickly meet and pull small groups and also have students take on role of teacher. Additionally, the chairs are much loved and appreciated by students. It keeps them occupied and much safer than trying to lean back in a regular school chair. The problem is I need more, since they always fight over them. So since then we have even needed to create a schedule that allows them to all get turns...and I teach high school!
