For awhile, books that were pushed out to classrooms assumed that students memorized several words (known as \"sight words\" i.e. \"I\", \"like\", \"the\", etc.) and therefore the rest of the words could be assumed by the very obvious pictures. Because that is what we have been provided for so long, that is what the majority of classroom \"reading\" libraries look like. However, YOU helped fill my classroom with several decodable texts that will help enrich my students lives with the ability to actually read their books using all of our phonics tools!\r\nIt is amazing to see students in Kindergarten go from only knowing the names of a few of the letters to knowing all of the sounds of the letters to being able to blend all of those sounds together into words. I am looking forward to placing these books into their hands and watching as the world of reading opens up to them.\r\nThank you so much for your donation to this project. Over the last few weeks, students have been welcomed into my room for the new school year and they have been drawn to these books! I have seen several students pointing to the pictures to discuss how \"this one looks like (classmate's name)!\" or \"Look! They use a wheelchair to get around!\" It has been truly wonderful seeing the kids' excitement. They have asked me to read the books again and again.\r\nAdditionally, other teachers (and parents who are thinking about joining education), have reached out to me to borrow some of the titles. This project is not just impacting my classroom, it is also impacting peoples' decisions to join education. These people want to work in an education system where they are free to be themselves, to see themselves in books, and to teach the next generation to be proud of who they are. \r\nYou have had an impact on these students and families and from the bottom of my heart, I thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1744238449032,"projectUrl":"project/we-can-see-each-other-in-books/9242619/","projectTitle":"We Can See Each Other in Books!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Zuravel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4618907_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1533543077391","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4618907"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_27661","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":322,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":37,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":27,"percentWhite":51,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":89.5,"schoolId":27661,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Kingsley Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Kingsley Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/evanston-skokie-cmty-csd-65/kingsley-elementary-school/27661"}
