When my students first saw it, their faces lit up with excitement — one even shouted, \"We have a comfy reading spot now!\" It instantly made our classroom feel warmer and more inviting.\r\n\r\nWhile we originally hoped to use the carpet for our reading block, we've discovered so many additional ways to make the most of it! It's now our go-to spot for math centers, where students can spread out manipulatives and collaborate in small groups. During indoor recess, the carpet transforms into a play space for games, puzzles, and laughter, helping to build friendships and give kids a much-needed mental break.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, it's become a central space for gathering, sharing ideas, and building a strong sense of classroom community. Currently, we're working on a unit about understanding character traits, and the carpet gives us the perfect setting for group discussions and reflection.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us create a space that brings joy, comfort, and deeper learning to our classroom every single day. The new resources have truly enhanced our learning environment, providing hands-on, interactive experiences that engage my students in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nOne specific project we've been working on is a math exploration using the Learning Resources MathLink Cubes and Magnetic Number Bonds. Students were thrilled when they first saw these new materials—many of them had never worked with manipulatives like these before. The MathLink Cubes are fantastic for hands-on math activities, and the Magnetic Number Bonds have helped my students visualize addition and subtraction in a fun, interactive way. Their eyes lit up as they discovered how they could build their own number sentences and work together to solve problems.\r\n\r\nWe've also used the AFUNX Magnetic Tiles for a STEM activity where students worked in small groups to build structures. It was wonderful to see their creativity in action as they worked together to solve engineering challenges. The JoyCat Student Chair Pockets have been a hit as well, allowing my students to keep their personal supplies organized and easily accessible throughout the day.\r\n\r\nThe reaction from my students when they first saw the materials was priceless. They were excited, eager to dive in, and thrilled to have new resources to explore. Many of them remarked how the new materials made learning feel like a fun game!\r\n\r\nAs for the next steps in our current projects, we will continue to use these materials to deepen our understanding of math concepts and improve our STEM skills. The Magnetic Tiles will be incorporated into more building challenges, and we'll use the Base Ten Blocks to reinforce place value concepts in our upcoming lessons. We'll also continue using the bilingual books like Mi Familia and I Need a Hug to support language development and celebrate cultural diversity.\r\n\r\nI cannot thank you enough for making these resources possible. The impact on my students' learning has been immeasurable, and I'm excited to see where these materials take us next!","fullyFundedDate":1727193146909,"projectUrl":"project/our-home-nuestra-casa/8558766/","projectTitle":"Our Home/ Nuestra Casa","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Samano","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9628584_orig.jpg?crop=1179,1179,x0,y165&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753684693143","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrssamano"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_25836","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":550,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":85,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"16.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":70.4,"schoolId":25836,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Coleman Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Coleman Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/elgin-school-district-u-46/coleman-elementary-school/25836"}
