Through this novel, ASL 2 students were able to dive further into Deaf culture relating to language barriers and the pressure the hearing world puts on individuals with hearing loss to rely on speech and English. All of my students were interested and engaged in this text with it being modernly written and in the tense of a high schooler!\r\n\r\nWe completed weekly chapter readings paired in in class discussion questions. The responses to these drove voice-off discussion (all in sign language) about topics the character was facing transitioning to a School for the Deaf.
