These new books have been an incredible addition to our school library, and our students have been absolutely delighted to explore them. Many of these texts introduce skills such as making predictions, noticing visual details, building vocabulary, and retelling stories using both words and pictures. Because the books are so engaging, students naturally practice these skills without even realizing they are doing work; they are simply excited to dive into stories that feel fun, vibrant, and made for them.\r\n\r\nReading in our library has taken on a whole new energy. Some students love to sit together and look closely at the illustrations, pointing out details and talking through what they notice. Others prefer to curl up alone with a book, quietly flipping through pages and getting lost in the artwork and storytelling. We also see students reading in pairs, taking turns describing what they see or helping each other sound out new words. These books have created so many joyful reading moments, and the library feels more alive because of them.\r\n\r\nSome students have especially connected with these new titles; students who used to wander the shelves, unsure of what to pick, now walk straight to these books with confidence. They smile, they share, they reread favorites, and they ask for more time to explore. Students use them often to build, design, experiment, and explore STEM ideas in ways that feel playful and empowering. \r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their reactions were priceless. Many of them gasped, some jumped up and down, and others immediately started imagining what they could build. For many of our students, this was their first time having access to high‑quality building materials like these, and the excitement was contagious. The library has become a buzzing makerspace where students collaborate, share ideas, and support one another. These materials have not only sparked creativity, but they've also helped build a stronger sense of community.\r\n\r\nAs we continue using these resources, students are beginning longer‑term STEM challenges, including designing structures and exploring engineering concepts through hands‑on play. The moment they walked in and saw the new activities laid out, they couldn't wait to get started. One specific moment that stands out was watching a group of students play a math-based matching game I created. They were laughing, talking through the problems together, and celebrating each other's wins—completely forgetting that they were actually practicing rigorous academic skills. These resources have turned independent practice into an interactive, joyful experience.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, our next steps are to use these materials to differentiate our learning even further. Students rush in each week eager to get their hands on fresh stories, books that have characters who look like them, sound like them, and honor their identities, languages, and experiences. These texts have opened the door to so many meaningful literacy moments: students are practicing prediction, noticing character feelings, building vocabulary, and having rich conversations about the world around them. Having stories that reflect who they are has helped them feel seen, valued, and excited to read in ways that are powerful to witness.\r\n\r\nOur students read everywhere now, curled up alone with a favorite book, side‑by‑side with a partner, or gathered around listening to a story read aloud. The book carts have become mobile mini‑libraries that we roll into classrooms, hallways, and special events, making books visible and inviting throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments happened the first morning the carts were set out.
