One of my students who typically struggles with written expression was able to demonstrate his understanding by physically modeling his ideas—something that would not have been possible without these new resources.\r\n\r\nTheir excitement was instant and contagious! Many students gasped, smiled, and immediately started asking, \"Can we try these today?\" For several of my students with sensory and learning needs, the tactile materials helped them feel calmer and more confident. It was heartwarming to watch them pick up the materials with curiosity and feel truly included in the learning process. We have printed, laminated, hole punched, spiral bound, and Velcro'd pretty much around the clock since! \r\n\r\nOne particular resource that's been very helpful is a \"I feel, I need\" board. To make it, I first print personalized coping strategies for a student, as well as emotion faces. I then laminate, cut, and Velcro. The student can use the end product to choose a feeling and what they need, so they can show it to their teacher if they need assistance. Many students who may seem to be completely unable to regulate themselves can actually identify their emotion and need visually with ease!
