Your benevolence in providing El Sol Scholastic magazines allows our students to learn Spanish in all four learning modes including reading, writing, speaking and listening. As new issues of El Sol arrive on a monthly or bi-monthly basis, our students will have fresh and engaging texts all year long!\r\n\r\nThis year the Spanish IV students will be using these magazines on a weekly basis as they will choose an article of the week for them to read, analyze, listen to and then respond with a summary, all completed in Spanish. One student's focus was on an article entitled El poder de un emoji (The Power of Emojis) which was of high-level student interest. The Spanish III students will be introduced to the September magazine of El Sol for the first time soon, and they will begin to engage in using these magazines with all they have to offer with intentional focus in supporting their listening skills as they listen to spoken Spanish from native speakers. All Spanish students may check out one book at a time for a two-week period, or longer if needed to read for leisure. Students in Spanish III and IV classes will have the opportunity to read one book per quarter and write a book summary on their book, all done entirely in Spanish. \r\nIn my classroom, students read daily from guided textbook readings which gradually increase in vocabulary levels while incorporating scaffolded grammatical concepts. After students have studied Spanish for a while, they become ready for more independent reading and now they may have choice of texts from a greater selection thanks to you!\r\n In addition to the traditional student learning Spanish as a foreign language, we have other students who speak Spanish as their native language. This group of students repeatedly asks me if I have any new books in Spanish for them to read and enjoy. Now, I can say \"Yes!\" to their requests as they have several to choose from. I wrote this grant because the students asked if we could add step aerobics into class. So, when we received them, they were so excited! Now everyone can participate in step aerobics together, and it's been awesome.\r\nMy students were able to learn the basics of step aerobics and move to more advanced moves as an entire class. It's been amazing to see them having fun and supporting each other. Projects like this help build a love for exercise that students will carry with them throughout their life after high school. Our students now have access to engaging, high-interest texts that are both accessible and meaningful.\r\n\r\nThese books are being used for independent reading in English class, where students are building essential literacy skills such as identifying theme, analyzing character development, making inferences, strengthening vocabulary, and supporting ideas with text evidence. Since the books are written at lower reading levels but cover high-interest, relevant topics, students are able to focus on comprehension and critical thinking rather than feeling overwhelmed by the difficulty of the text. This has been especially important for students who may struggle with reading but still crave mature, engaging content.\r\n\r\nWhat makes this project even more impactful is that the books also connect to a cross-curricular mental health project in Health class. Students will use their independent reading books to explore a variety of mental health topics. They will analyze how characters navigate challenges and reflect on real-life applications, helping them build both literacy skills and social-emotional awareness.\r\n\r\nYour donation has done more than add books to our shelves. It has created opportunities for academic growth, meaningful conversations, and deeper understanding of mental health. My students have benefited greatly from these resources. The resources have been used by students who receive counseling services. The mini fish lava lamp with Bluetooth speaker and the Zen Garden catches the students' curiosity and attention while providing a calm, relaxing, safe and inviting space. I had several of my students make comments like \"Where did that come from?\" and \"That is cool!\".\r\n\r\nMy intent is to continue using these materials to build group counseling services in the building. I want to build a culture where it is safe and okay to seek out the counselor in times of need.
