Your generosity brought vibrant primary-color Play-Doh into our art classroom at Brook Park, giving our students a hands-on way to explore color theory. From the moment the containers were opened, excitement filled the room. Students were eager to touch, mix, and experiment with the materials, and their enthusiasm set the tone for a joyful and creative learning experience.\r\nUsing the Play-Doh, our elementary artists were able to see color theory come to life in ways that simply aren't possible with paper alone. They mixed colors to discover secondary and tertiary hues, created small sculptures that demonstrated warm vs. cool palettes, and worked collaboratively to compare the differences in shades and tints. Many students who usually feel hesitant in art found success with this tactile approach, gaining confidence as they made real-time discoveries with their hands. The project supported diverse learners, especially those who thrive with sensory materials and visual problem-solving.\r\nThis project made a lasting impact on our classroom. Students still refer back to what they learned during our Play-Doh sessions when mixing paint, selecting colors for drawings, or discussing artwork. Their understanding of color relationships has noticeably deepened, and the classroom culture has grown more collaborative and creative. Thank you again for making this experience possible. Your kindness truly enriched our art program and helped our Brook Park artists build skills, confidence, and joyful memories that will stay with them for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1754260209568,"projectUrl":"project/playdoh-primaries/9497418/","projectTitle":"Playdoh Primaries","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Montalbano","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2906104_orig.jpg?crop=1938,1938,x627,y291&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1688838281053","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/j-montalbano"},{"teacherId":2906104,"projectId":9131793,"letterContent":"Thank You for Empowering Our Young Artists!\r\n\r\nBecause of your generous support, our classroom is now stocked with vibrant oil pastels, bold Sharpies, and other essential supplies that are transforming the way our young artists create. The excitement was immediate—students couldn't wait to get their hands on the new materials. One second grader even exclaimed, \"These make my art look so grown up!\"\r\n\r\nWe recently used the oil pastels in a layered landscape project where students explored blending and shading to create depth and movement in their drawings. The Sharpies have become a go-to tool for outlining, detail work, and expressive line art—giving students the confidence to make strong artistic choices. These materials are helping build fine motor skills while deepening their understanding of color, composition, and design.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be using these supplies in a project inspired by a contemporary artist, where students will combine bold outlines with layered colors to create dynamic self-expressions. Our first graders are obsessed with the new decodable comics—you should see their faces light up when it's time to read. They're so eager to read every word, and many ask to bring the comics home so they can keep reading after school. They already have favorite characters and love talking about what happens in each issue. These fun, phonics-aligned stories are building their confidence and helping them become strong, joyful readers.\r\n\r\nWe've also been using the Word Work set during our literacy block, and it's been an amazing tool for reinforcing phonics skills. Students are practicing spelling patterns, blending sounds, and building words every day. Meanwhile, my second graders can't get enough of the mystery books! They're becoming reading detectives—making predictions, spotting clues, and solving cases using the reading strategies we've learned. The advanced phonics guide has also helped me introduce more complex concepts in an engaging way. These tools are helping all my students grow as readers, and I'm so grateful for the impact you've made in our classroom.
