EVERY DAY, students ask to use them without fail. The Nee Doh cubes and gum drops as well as the weighted stuffed animals are among their favorites. Some students choose to use them daily while others use them during group meetings and presentations.\r\n\r\nArt therapy is another amazing tool that we use at CI Bridge Academy to help students connect with their emotions and also to support their emotional regulation. The donations have allowed us to offer art therapy on a weekly basis and our students thrive in this area when using the materials that have been donate. Some of the students' favorite art therapy projects have been: \r\n\r\n1. Masks: Using acrylic paint markers on a mask with the exterior representing the you you let others see and the interior representing the things you hide from others but truly feel.\r\n\r\n2. Abstract Emotions Art: Students divide a paper into four sections and use symbols and abstract art to represent feelings of guilt, calm, fear, and joy in each of the quadrants. Paint and oil pastels are the preferred mediums for this project.\r\n\r\n3. Modeling Clay: Students often use modeling clay to represent an emotion or something that might represents their identities.","fullyFundedDate":1728616970370,"projectUrl":"project/art-therapy-and-sensory-support-for-stud/8866249/","projectTitle":"Art Therapy and Sensory Support for Students with Anxiety","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Michelle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1771705"},{"teacherId":9796518,"projectId":8863275,"letterContent":"The bolsters and blocks have been amazing tools in our weekly meditation and yoga class! Every Monday, Tuesday and occasional Fridays I teach yoga the students at my school. We have been using the bolsters and blocks to be in restorative poses that they can hold during meditations. Holding/restorative poses work the muscle and joints in a way where trauma is held are let out through that pose. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials they were excited to try them to be more comfortable in our longer meditations. Students now ask to grab a bolster just to sit on them when needing to feel more comfortable. \r\n\r\nIn the months to come, we will be doing more Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga with long meditations for trauma, anxiety and depression. The students will learn how to use the bolsters and blocks in different ways. I have a number of students who sometimes struggle verbalizing their feelings or who need to engage in something while verbalizing their feelings. When we think of play therapy or sandtray therapy oftentimes we assume it is only younger kids who benefit. I would make the argument that older youth up to and including high school age youth benefit from expressing themselves through play. This also applies to adolescents who have experienced trauma that may have disrupted their typical stages of development and made access to play difficult for them.\r\n\r\nBy giving students access to play and even encouraging it as a way to re-regulate themselves, they can find ways to be more successful both in the classroom and outside of it!","fullyFundedDate":1728347343057,"projectUrl":"project/healing-through-play/8864146/","projectTitle":"Healing Through Play","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nona","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9796964"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_131590","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":60,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":39,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":77,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"US Census Data for the surrounding geographic area","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"Census ZCTA","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":131590,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Central Illinois Bridge Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Central Illinois Bridge Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/-county-run-/central-illinois-bridge-academy/131590"}
