They loved the idea that they were able to do a group project that was both fun and challenging. It really peeked some interest in some of the kiddos who are less inclined to participate in regular classroom activities.\r\n Our first attempt at using the new games, really brought out some negative energy. I had kids who didn't want to share, some who didn't want to let others help...there were tears and hurt feelings. I even thought \"maybe this was a bad idea\" but then I also had to remember, ever since Covid, a lot of our kiddos have developed some learned helplessness. \r\n We took a break and discussed how things went and what we could have done better. How listening to each other and taking turns would have made a difference. We tried it again, and they did so much better! They LOVED it. I Highly recommend these games for every classroom because they really encourage a lot of problem solving! They show how there are sooo many ways to complete the task. The kids challenged themselves to complete their \"puzzle\" then change the tracks and complete it again!\r\n This was such a fun game to share with the kiddos, and it was a huge eye opener on some areas that we may need to help them improve in. Though the kit is for a small group, I was able to use the general idea in the kit and make it bigger so the whole class could use it as a science lab for energy, animal senses, earth science and more. I also really enjoy the workbook for ideas and making copies so I can make it work for all my students.\r\n\r\nBoth of these items have helped me get more hands-on experiences for my students without spending so much time researching ideas and worksheets.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting a small, rural teacher trying to make a big difference.","fullyFundedDate":1756219731696,"projectUrl":"project/making-science-hands-on/9595212/","projectTitle":"Making Science Hands-on","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Madariaga","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9205580_orig.jpg?crop=1080,1080,x0,y43&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755992916072","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9205580"},{"teacherId":6892610,"projectId":9107832,"letterContent":"I cannot express how excited the kids were to be able to sit around the room on a comfy cushion...some even mentioned how much they made their plastic chairs more comfy and they LOVED it! The 5th graders got the hover balls all put together and I gave them the task to create a fun game that incorporates a lesson with them. We are going to trial and error their ideas and share them with the younger grades when we find the perfect one. I have saved at least 10 dead chromebooks in the past 3 days so there was no excuse as to why a lesson couldn't be completed haha. I think I was more appreciative of that than the student though to be honest! We have decided to use the stars to create constellations around the room. We do a lot of lights out typing, so they will get to check out their favorite ones while we do so. So many teaches have made comments about the elastic bands and have asked how they make a difference....some claiming they would be distracting. I was excited to tell them, they keep the kids busy in a stationary location, they're the best thing EVER. Thank you again for helping to provide all of these fun tools for the classroom, I honestly could not do it without you all.","fullyFundedDate":1746539276686,"projectUrl":"project/adaptive-progress-on-being-prepared/9107832/","projectTitle":"Adaptive Progress on Being Prepared.","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Collinsworth","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6892610_orig.jpg?crop=2498,2498,x0,y174&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726244772701","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6892610"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_52543","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":389,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":46,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":82,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":48.5,"schoolId":52543,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Shadow Butte Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Shadow Butte Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/idaho/emmett-independent-school-district-221/shadow-butte-elementary-school/52543"}
