These started coming in right as I had to leave the library for the remainder of the year. I was lucky and blessed enough to receive a new heart and underwent a successful transplant surgery in February. The students were anxious and concerned (which I thought was so sweet), and your generosity helped give them something so be excited about. Who doesn't love using brand new markers and crayons?! The pencils came just in time for State Testing and we go through a lot of them during the math tests especially. I'm so sorry I don't have pictures to post for this project as I was unable to return to work for several months. The subs who helped cover my position were thrilled to be able to share all the new supplies with the students! We are so beyond grateful for these kind and generous gifts. They get used daily by small and large groups of kids. After celebrating academic achievements, each student received a pencil pouch with each of the items (pencils, pens, highlighters, and an eraser). Many said they were excited to head off to high school after getting these gifts. \r\n\r\nAs we wrap up the year, we are reminded of the generosity of others and created many thank you notes to distribute throughout the school. They are a hit! Students are using them individually at the long counter to work on essays. This allowed some space for students to focus on their own thoughts and writing. Other students have been using the bungy chairs while we read our novel. They are engaged and adding to discussions more than before.\r\n\r\nThe added chair options has opened up a lot of opportunities to discuss how to use the resources fairly amongst the students. We have done random students, drawings, and teams earning the chairs for a day based on a specific skill or behavior. \r\n\r\nOverall, the chairs have added so much more than a comfy place for students to work. This competition fosters teamwork, responsibility, and good sportsmanship. These are kids who love to read and this provides them with an amazing opportunity. Each student received a mechanical pencil and have access to as much lead as they need. The pencil sharpener has been the highlight for the students. It is quick, quiet, and consistent. All notebooks have been distributed to students who were in need. They quietly said thank for the kindness of providing resources they needed.\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes arrived, students were so excited to see what we received.
