Spring is here and we have so much rain which means so much indoor recess. In the past students would be disappointed when there was indoor recess, but not anymore! They are beyond excited about the Legos, play doh, and stem building sets. When I unpacked the boxes with all of the toys the excitement and joy could be seen on their faces and heard in the \"awe and whoos\" of their voices. \r\n\r\nIt has been amazing to watch the students working together to build creations during their recess time. The toys that you donated have helped my special education students practice communication and problem solving skills. Playing and working together is such an important developmental skill that is best developed during free play time. \r\n\r\nYour generosity has made children happy and provide them with access to toys they would never get to experience without your kindness.","fullyFundedDate":1772069627099,"projectUrl":"project/never-fear-indoor-recess-toys-are-here/10117762/","projectTitle":"Never Fear Indoor Recess Toys Are Here","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp104111_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y241&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733868833676","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/104111"},{"teacherId":104111,"projectId":9790848,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for providing my students with so many amazing graphic novels. One of my greatest joys is seeing children excited about new books. When the boxes came with all the books you donated I opened them up in front of my students. It is a rare occasion for children to get to handle brand new books. It was wonderful too see how excited they were. They loved how fresh and crisp the pages were. One student even said, \"They smell new.\" In today's highly digital world we can easily forget that students both need and want to experience the tangible. They want to have new books in their hands. \r\n\r\nAs a special education teacher I often encounter great deal of resistance to reading. The kids will say books are too hard or too boring, but the moment graphic novels come out all the complaining stops. The pictures make the books accessible to them. They don't become overwhelmed by the text they become excited. The most amazing result of your donation is that now I have students that have read the graphic novels and they are now requesting to go to the library to get the original novel. \r\n\r\nYour donation inspired struggling readers and you have made children happy. Thank you for your kindness because of you students are excited about reading.","fullyFundedDate":1767232009011,"projectUrl":"project/bring-on-the-books/9790848/","projectTitle":"Bring on the Books!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp104111_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y241&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733868833676","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/104111"},{"teacherId":10175177,"projectId":9589709,"letterContent":"I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to you for your incredible support of my Donors Choose project. Because of your kindness, my special education classroom now has the intervention materials we need to help every student make meaningful progress.\r\n\r\nThese new resources have already begun making a difference! My students are excited to explore the hands-on-tools and engaging activities that allow them to practice foundational skills at their own pace. The materials are helping us target individual learning goals and build confidence, independence, and joy in learning. In just these last two months my students have made so much academic growth already! I am very excited to see their progress by the end of this school year. Thanks to you, my students are discovering that learning to read is fun!\r\n\r\nFor many of my students, even small steps forward represent big victories-and thanks to your generosity, we now have the right supports in place to make those steps possible every day.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in my students and for investing in their success. I had two main goals for this project. I hoped to have the students become more motivated to read independently and I was hoping they would start discussing books between themselves. Both of these goals have been reached. I often see students making books recommendations to their peers. This discuss which book is their favorite in a series and what they want to read next. \r\n\r\nThere is almost nothing more wonderful that seeing children excited about reading. Many of the books you provided for the classroom were parts of a series. The students are excited and proud to share they have finished a book. They can't wait to tell me which book they are going to read next. Some of the students have already completed reading an entire series and we are only in the first month of school.\r\n\r\nAll of my students are special education students and reading is often a huge struggle. The graphic novels you donated have made reading of novels more accessible to them. Prior to your donation of books many of the students had never finished a book before, but your donation changed that for them. The books you donated have opened their eyes to the joy of reading and I am forever grateful to you for giving me the opportunity to put new books into the hands of my students.","fullyFundedDate":1752765936603,"projectUrl":"project/inspiring-struggling-readers/9334593/","projectTitle":"Inspiring Struggling Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp104111_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y241&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733868833676","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/104111"},{"teacherId":104111,"projectId":9000443,"letterContent":"I am truly grateful for you generosity. My students have been so excited about earning class dollars for when they make good choices. They are beyond thrilled with the toys they are able to buy. My students do not come from households that can afford to buy them Lego sets and fancy art supplies. For my students this is their first opportunity to be able to access quality toys and they are empowered to earn the money to buy these nice toys. \r\n\r\nYour donation changed the life of one little boy. About a month after all the toys were delivered and set up in the classroom for our school store I received a new student. This student is only ten years old and was having extreme behavior problems. The police were coming to the school and his home, he had charges pressed against him, and had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance from the school due to extreme self harm. Sadly, he was completely unable to regulate any emotions successfully. \r\n\r\nWhen he joined my class I showed him the toys that you had donated that we had displayed in the classroom. I explained how in our class you earn pretend money (one dollar bills) for making good choices. Then the pretend money buys you really amazing toys that you get to keep forever and take home. Little did I know this student loved Legos! \r\n\r\nI have had this student in my class for a little over two months now. He has been so motivated by buying Lego sets on the last Friday of the month that we have not called the police once, he has not had any self-harm, or even said a curse word. He is so happy and proud of himself. Daily we talk about how when you make good choices good things happen in your life. Your donation to our classroom truly changed the trajectory of this child's life. I am truly grateful to you for your donation because you changed a child's outlook on life.","fullyFundedDate":1737651402097,"projectUrl":"project/good-choices-earn-good-outcomes/9000443/","projectTitle":"Good Choices Earn Good Outcomes","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp104111_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y241&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733868833676","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/104111"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_52594","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":397,"numTeachers":27,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":82,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":52594,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Winton Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Winton Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/idaho/coeur-d-alene-public-schools/winton-elementary-school/52594"}
