Even though our project is only in the beginning stages, each class truly loved unboxing the materials together. The excitement in the room was immediate as students explored the cars and supplies and began imagining what they would create. My initial goal with this project was to give students an innovative engineering experience that they could later compete with during recess when our weather was too cold and snowy. Ironically, winter has not arrived yet, but that has not slowed our momentum at all.\r\n\r\nStudents have already chosen their cars and started design journals where they are drafting improvements they would like to make to enhance speed and performance. These journals have sparked thoughtful conversations about friction, weight, and design choices. My older students have also taken the lead by using Canva to create \"race day\" brackets, which we plan to laminate and print so we can track data, stats, and results once racing begins. Watching students collaborate, problem-solve, and take ownership of their ideas has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue refining their designs, testing ideas, and preparing for our upcoming races. We are excited to analyze results, make adjustments, and eventually crown champions across grade levels. Your generosity has sparked so much interest and engagement in my classroom, and I hope this update shows how meaningful your contributions has been. Thank you for helping create an engaging, hands-on learning experience that my students will remember for a life-time.","fullyFundedDate":1760123649090,"projectUrl":"project/race-to-innovate-schoolwide-hot-wheels/9663771/","projectTitle":"Race to Innovate: Schoolwide Hot Wheels Challenge","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Pimley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8562978"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_52399","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":173,"numTeachers":12,"percentFrplEligible":43,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":92,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"14.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":52399,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Basin Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Basin Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/idaho/basin-school-district/basin-elementary-school/52399"}
