My third grade students and I were so incredibly excited when our four ginormous boxes were delivered to our classroom! They could not wait for custodian Mr. Ian to assemble the standing boards so that they could start using them right away! Students were using words like \"slay\" and \"upgrade\" to describe our new standing boards. Gone were the flimsy wipe boards that were hung on the walls with ugly blue painter's tape and hello to big standing boards on wheels!\r\n\r\nOur standing boards are used to work out math problems in groups of two or three students. Working in groups allow students to practice and develop their communication skills as well as their problem solving skills. It's such a great way for students to be engaged and actively learning. Students ask on the daily if they will be working in groups. I have put the boards in use in other ways as well. It works wonders in small groups. I'm no longer limited to how I set up my classroom since the boards are accessible on both side and is magnetic! \r\n\r\nI'm very excited to see how else I can put these boards to use to elevate student learning. The day your donated materials arrived—our new standing and mobile whiteboards, dry erase markers, and erasers—my third graders could barely contain their excitement. Their eyes lit up with excitement and their voices were filled with enthusiasm when they asked if we could start to use them right away. With the resourcefulness of our wonderful custodian, students were able to being to use them the very next day! \r\n\r\nThese whiteboards have transformed the way we learn together. Whether we're solving multi-step math story problems, mapping out story elements, or brainstorming ideas for science engineering projects, the boards provide a space where students can physically engage with one another, with their thinking, and with the thoughts of their peers. Students are placed in self-selected or at times random groups as they gather together to discuss, collaborate, and refine their ideas. In addition to discussing strategies they have begun to challenging each other's thinking respectfully, and have been celebrating successes together. These are all skills that they will need to have as they grow up to become contributing members of our communities and work places. Beyond academics, they're also building a stronger classroom community—where every voice is seen and heard. \r\n\r\nYour donation gave my students more than just supplies—it gave them a new way to connect with learning and with each other. I'm excited for this type of learning community to take root within our classroom from the very beginning of the school year when school resumes after summer break! It was amazing to see them work together at the boards and witness teamwork and peer learning. The shared workspace provided visibility of their work, which encouraged collaborative thinking and meaningful discussions. After finishing their work, they visited other groups' boards to analyze each other's work, exposing them to diverse problem-solving strategies and perspectives. Ultimately, these whiteboards empowered my students to learn actively from each other and expand their problem-solving skills. \r\n\r\nWhen they first saw the boards, they were thrilled! They knew working with them would be easier and more efficient. They loved showcasing their work and collaborating with one another. My students primarily used the standing whiteboards during math lessons, where they worked together in groups to solve problems. They also utilized the boards to present their drafts for project-based learning activities. In these groups, they brainstormed and developed their project ideas. Once they finished, they circulated the classroom to view other groups' ideas that were displayed on the whiteboards and provided constructive feedback to help them improve their project. I also used the board while teaching a small group of students. Since it is conveniently portable, I was able to move it to the back of the classroom, where I usually work with this group. The whiteboard was large enough for all the students to see the material, allowing them to engage with what was displayed, which ultimately aided their understanding of the lesson. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generous gift. These standing whiteboards are already making a significant difference in how my students learn, and I know they will continue to positively impact many more students in the future.","fullyFundedDate":1742498971058,"projectUrl":"project/collaborative-canvases-standing-whitebo/9176497/","projectTitle":"Collaborative Canvases: Standing Whiteboards in Action","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Leong","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9970132"},{"teacherId":7997108,"projectId":9161023,"letterContent":"Mahalo for your generosity in helping to keep the sniffles away!
