Our students have been fully engaged in hands-on, project-based learning that builds both creativity and essential motor skills like coordination, cutting, and design.\r\n\r\nOne of our most exciting projects focused on our island—Kamawaelualani / Kauaʻi / Manokalanipo. Students explored the moku (districts) of our island and then created their own versions using the ChompShop. They carefully cut, designed, and assembled their islands, adding important landmarks and features that reflect their growing understanding of place.\r\n\r\nWhat stood out most was the level of excitement and pride. Students were not just completing a project—they were connecting to ʻāina, to story, and to identity. The ChompShop allowed them to express this learning in a creative, hands-on way that truly deepened their understanding.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the supplies you helped provide ensured that each student could safely store and return to their work over time. This supported longer-term projects and reinforced patience, responsibility, and care for their creations.\r\n\r\nWe've already seen how tools like the ChompShop open the door for even more project-based learning opportunities in the future. Our students are eager, inspired, and asking, \"What can we make next?\"\r\n\r\nYour support is directly impacting how our keiki learn—making education more engaging, culturally grounded, and joyful.\r\n\r\nMahalo for being part of this journey with us.","fullyFundedDate":1758829208697,"projectUrl":"project/stem-with-chomp-innovatecreate-collab/9760082/","projectTitle":"STEM with Chomp: Innovate,Create, Collaborate!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Aunty Lorilani","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10225413"},{"teacherId":10225413,"projectId":9690629,"letterContent":"More than 137 haumāna gathered in this experience, each one using these simple supplies to transform learning into something they could wear, carry, and remember. From the beginning I have been very impressed after learning how the organization has been empowering donors to have a direct impact on our public schools since 2000. The philanthropic vision became a reality thanks to the determined efforts of founders, Charles Best and Theresia Gouw. The idea of teacher-led efforts to engage and inspire young students, funded by generous donors, resonated with me immediately. I was amazed at how fast my project titled, \"Outdoor PE Fun\" was accepted and funded. Big thanks to the generosity of Marc and Lynne Benioff to Hawaii's public school system. The school I teach at, Kapa'a Elementary School, is a title one school. Where some of my students come from broken homes and others are houseless. The donations made available by the synergistic efforts of the Donors Choose program, teacher created projects, and the philanthropic people in the community has a profound impact on our youth. This impact extends beyond the classroom and into the greater school community in which we live. The Donors choose providing teachers with a platform to bring higher levels of access to quality educational resources equates to improved student performance and learning. \r\n My project was inspired by my PE classes being conducted outside in Hawaii's idyllic weather and consistent trade winds. The Wind Wands and Kan Jam game both are home runs with my students. From a PE teaching perspective these are used to improve eye-hand coordination, dexterity, muscle toning, cardio-vascular and cardio respiratory endurance. The photos I uploaded capture the simple joy, comradery, and excitement the students shared while using the new equipment. We use the poster I uploaded a photo of as reminders of expected behavior and standards of conduct while in PE class. I will periodically have the kids read chorally the posters message to start off the class and set a positive vibe. I plan on using the certificates of excellence as a motivational tool to reward students who are trying their best, playing safe, and being good sports. Kickball is a favorite of my 5th graders and we have a 5th grade kickball tournament at the end of the year. The expressions on the kids faces when they first laid eyes on all the new equipment brought me back to early childhood memories of waking up on Christmas morning and seeing all the presents under the Christmas tree.
