Prior to this project, students often struggled to stay hydrated throughout the school day, especially during outdoor learning, cultural work, and physical education. Many students did not bring water bottles from home, or would run out of water and have limited options for refilling. With this new station in place, hydration has become far more accessible, consistent, and simple for all learners.\r\n\r\nThe students are most excited about how fast, cold, and \"real\" the water feels to them — and they proudly refill throughout the day. We noticed that students are drinking more water instead of sugary drinks, and teachers have observed improvements in focus, stamina, and mood, especially in the afternoons. The refill station also aligns with our ʻāina-based values by reducing single-use plastics on campus. Students have already commented that \"it feels good not to throw away bottles anymore,\" and have taken responsibility for stewarding both their bodies and their environment.\r\n\r\nThis project has been especially impactful for our most active learners and for those who spend significant time on ʻāina-based work such as mālama ʻāina, orchard care, hydroponics, stream investigations, and hula. Hydration has become part of our learning culture instead of an afterthought, and it directly supports health, readiness to learn, and community practices grounded in mālama. As a public charter school on indigenous land in Anahola, HI, this is actually the first year the students are exposed to Western Science education. The school's goals are to incorporate traditional learning objectives related to Hawaiian legacy and integrate them into Western principles of Science education. It isn't enough to just learn the two individually, when there are so many other schools that do not incorporate traditional/cultural based models. In addition to showing the fights scientists have had throughout centuries of its own evolution as a discipline, the students are able to synthesize their own learning from Aina-based education through Western traditions and build their own understanding of the world. \r\n\r\nI really appreciate all of the STEM kits, projects related to specific NGSS standards, and little things they can use on their own time to just play in what it means to be a scientist, a kid, a learner, etc. Attached, you will find a few cards from the sixth grade class expressing their gratitude, along with some pictures of the first all secondary science fair for the school. \r\n\r\nI hope you have a great 2026 and may you continue to bless more classrooms in the future. The Lakeshore Magnetic Phonics Kits have allowed me to integrate that practice back into all of my groups. The kits have become an indispensable favorite; they empower students to physically manipulate complex language structures. With dedicated tiles for digraphs, trigraphs, vowel teams, and R-controlled vowels, students are no longer intimidated by advanced patterns. The addition of cooling technology has transformed these spaces into classrooms where students can breathe easier, stay alert, and fully participate in academic learning, cultural work, and peer collaboration.\r\n\r\nWhat excites our students most about this upgrade is how it directly impacts their ability to learn and create. Instead of battling heat or needing to take frequent breaks to cool down, they are able to sustain attention during lessons, group projects, and hands-on activities. The new fans and cooling equipment are quiet and efficient, helping maintain the learning atmosphere without disrupting instruction. Our haumāna often commented that it \"feels like the classroom can breathe now,\" and teachers have seen a noticeable difference in stamina and positive behaviors during longer work blocks.\r\n\r\nThis change has especially benefited students who were previously sensitive to heat or easily overwhelmed in warm environments. Several of our learners who struggle with focus and sensory regulation have shown improved participation, confidence, and willingness to stay engaged throughout the day. Thanks to your donations, our students received a wonderful collection of new art supplies, including polymer clay and \"how to draw\" books that have truly transformed our creative space.\r\nThe polymer clay, especially, was a huge hit! We recently completed a project where students designed and sculpted miniature food magnets: tiny burgers, sushi, shave ice, and other local treats. Watching their ideas come to life through sculpting, baking, and assembling the magnets was pure joy. Students were proud to take ownership of their work and share it with classmates, and it sparked so many creative conversations about color, form, and local foods that represent Hawai'i.\r\nFor students who finish early, the \"how to draw\" books have been an inspiring addition. They love flipping through the pages, challenging themselves to learn new drawing techniques, and using what they learn in their own art. It's created a calm, creative flow in the classroom where everyone always has something meaningful to work on.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be exploring a unit on cultural symbolism and wearable art, where students will use their skills to design personal or Hawaiian-inspired pieces.
