I teach a Kindergarten class of 20 students in a Title 1 elementary school. Most of my students are English language learners. The supplies you helped me purchase are already in use within our classroom and are making a difference for my students.\r\nWe are using the 10 frames and counters to improve our math fluency and to practice composing and decomposing numbers. The tactile frames and counters are making math more accessible to my less experienced students, since they have a tangible connection to the concepts we are learning. Similarly, the golden coins are supporting counting and sorting activities (it's much more fun to count fancy golden coins than anything else they've tried). The magnetic gears, lacing cards, and stringing blocks are being used during our morning arrival activity time and during afternoon free time, and are helping students develop their fine motor skills--this drives improvement in their writing, as they gain more facility with and control over their pencils, crayons, and markers. The timers are helping students to build stamina in writing--\"Just keep going for one more timer\" and they help students feel control in the process. The stretchy bands are used regularly as we work to segment words into individual phonemes by stretching the words out to hear their component sounds. Perhaps the most fun item in the project are the swatters. Students in my small groups use these to play games where we identify letters by name and/or sound, as well as our high frequency words.\r\nA friend of mine often says we should strive to \"Be the difference that makes a difference.\" With your generous support, that is happening for my students. Thank you for making a difference.","fullyFundedDate":1751406178201,"projectUrl":"project/developing-dexterity-and-refining-writin/9191898/","projectTitle":"Developing Dexterity and Refining Writing","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Miller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8840763_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y181&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1668272671663","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8840763"},{"teacherId":7929039,"projectId":9159031,"letterContent":"I would like to share the real-world impact your generosity has sparked in our first-grade classroom. The day our boxes arrived, I asked a few students to help me \"investigate a mystery delivery.\" As soon as they lifted the lids and saw the glittering kinetic sand, chunky phonics tiles, and rainbow of Sharpie pens, excitement filled the air and the students couldn't wait to use the materials. \r\nBefore the students could interact with the materials, we discussed the words 'donate', 'donation' and 'donors'. I mentioned to the students that there are people who care about Linapuni students and their learning that they wanted to donate these materials to help them practice making words, practice writing, and love learning. \r\nThe next steps for my students on a current classroom lesson is using the chart paper and Sharpie pens to solve math story problems. Students will discover that literacy (reading and writing) can be applied across the content areas. \r\nBecause of your generous donation, literacy learning became alive. Students' learning styles were supported: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners, ensuring that every child has a way to connect with and internalize new phonics concepts.\r\nFrom the bottom of our hearts—mahalo nui loa for empowering Linapuni first grade learners the opportunities to approach language with curiosity and courage, and that confidence that will echo far beyond first grade.","fullyFundedDate":1742171928329,"projectUrl":"project/building-strong-readers-as-word-explorer/9159031/","projectTitle":"Building Strong Readers as Word Explorers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. BAUTISTA","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7929039_orig.png?crop=272,272,x14,y105&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759099111682","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7929039"},{"teacherId":8840763,"projectId":8820491,"letterContent":"Thank you for your kind support of our Art and Organization project. We have been using the baseball card sleeves to track and review our high frequency words and my students are scoring well on assessments of the 20+ words we have learned thus far. \r\n\r\nThe paint and colored pencils have already been used many times for art projects that tie into and enhance our considerations of the Essential Questions we study in our language arts curriculum.\r\n\r\nStudents are using playdough to practice letters and high frequency words. This practice and activities with the kinetic sand also have the benefit of strengthening their hands and fine motor skills. \r\n\r\nRubber band puzzles, wooden puzzles, and story sequencing cards give students a chance to practice oral language skills as they interact with each other and with me during small group time. Thanks to your support, our preschool classroom is now equipped with various sanitizing products that have significantly impacted our children's daily routines and health practices. The facial tissues, hand wipes, soap, soap dispensers, disinfecting solutions, and other cleaning supplies you provided ensure that our classroom stays clean and teaches children the essential habit of personal hygiene. Every day, the children eagerly use hand wipes and soap to wash their hands before and after meals and after activities like playing outside. They love the automatic dispensers, which make handwashing more fun and engaging.\r\n\r\nThe children have genuinely embraced these new practices, and their understanding of staying germ-free grows daily. For instance, they now remind each other to wash their hands after touching shared toys, using the bathroom, or before eating. Their ability to identify when it's time to clean up has blossomed, showing that they have internalized these important habits. Seeing them taking responsibility for their health and encouraging their peers to do the same is wonderful. The disinfecting solutions have helped keep surfaces clean and free from germs, and the children have become increasingly aware of the importance of maintaining a safe and healthy environment.\r\n\r\nThanks to your donation, we have seen a noticeable improvement in the children's understanding of cleanliness and hygiene. They have learned how to stay germ-free through practical use of the materials, and they are more excited than ever to take care of their bodies and environment. This project has not only provided us with the tools to maintain a clean space but has also created an opportunity for the children to develop lifelong habits that will help keep them healthy.
