They constructed different types of ramps or \"slopes\" with varying degrees of steepness. Using rulers, students measured the vertical rise and the horizontal run of their slopes. Then, by placing these measurements in the \"rise over run\" format, they were able to see how slope is represented as a fraction and how it changes depending on the steepness of the slope. \r\n\r\nUsing manipulatives has greatly helped students conceptualize math concepts by making abstract ideas more concrete and hands-on. Tools like MagnaTiles, rulers, and other physical objects allow students to visualize and physically explore mathematical relationships, such as slope. It has been wonderful to see them grow into classmates who not only support each other but also form lasting friendships throughout the school year. The kids learned new skills, such as lei making and painting native Hawaiian species. Some students even played UNO for the first time!
