Through all of your support, we have been able to turn what was once a weed-entrenched sloped hill into a well-established tiered food and native plant garden. The soil tests allowed students to test out soil nutrients and helped them to plan out what they wanted to plant. They are currently learning about yield vs. square footage through trial and error and starting to realize how planning the accessibility of their plants in a tiered garden is important in order to harvest your crops effectively. \r\n\r\nThe students are absolutely dedicated to their garden. In fact, they are constantly asking me if they can work in the garden. When we had our first harvest, they were thrilled at the results, but also learned a valuable lesson in being over eager when it comes to pulling crops that might not be quite ready to harvest. They are currently starting seeds to grow a \"Three Sisters\" garden and pumpkin patch for fall.\r\n\r\nFor this upcoming school year, the students are now doing their own research projects. Many of them have been inspired by the garden, and will be doing various projects revolving around using the space. Some of their potential projects include understanding why our native plants did not fare so well compared to crop plants, eco-friendly pest deterrents, and utilizing natural, readily available fertilizers to enhance their garden.\r\n\r\nThank you again for all your support!
