Because of you, we were able to create a \"Peaceful Space\"—a dedicated, comfortable, and resource-rich area that has transformed how my students learn and regulate their emotions.\r\n\r\nYour donations funded essential items, including the beautiful Carpets for Kids Peaceful Spaces Leaf Rug, comfortable round floor cushions, a set of multicolor book bins, and an assortment of mini stress balls and sensory worry stones.\r\n\r\nThe students' reaction to the new materials was pure joy and immediate appreciation. When they first saw the soft, nature-inspired Leaf Rug and the colorful floor cushions, they immediately understood the invitation to relax. There were gasps of excitement over the \"fidget tools\"—they couldn't wait to test out the different textures of the worry stones and the satisfying squish of the stress balls. What impressed me most was how quickly they grasped the concept of the space; they intuitively knew that this was a special place for finding peace and focus. It immediately became a safe, respected, and highly utilized area in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my students' well-being. My students and I are using them weekly to help with our PE curriculum. We now have a wide range of different activities we can do. \r\n\r\nFor example, our favorite PE game, Dragonball, is now possible because of your donation. We used the flag belts and colored cones to help set up our game. We are so excited to be able to have our own set and be able to play this game more consistently. \r\n\r\nThe students' reaction when they first saw the materials was priceless! There were audible gasps and a collective surge of excitement. I explained the DonorsChoose program to my students, and they were amazed by how you help teachers and students. This funding has made a real difference in their daily lives, and we are so thankful for your investment in their well-being and education. Thanks to your support, my students now have a wonderful, comfortable, and inviting learning space.\r\nThe new wellness posters and decorations have created a positive and calming atmosphere, while the new reading books are already sparking a love for reading in my students. The addition of comfy chair pillows and earbuds has given them a cozy corner to focus and relax.\r\n\r\nHere's an update on how your support has impacted my students.\r\n\r\nHow We're Using the New Resources\r\nThe new resources have created a vibrant and engaging learning environment. The wellness posters and decorations have made our classroom feel more welcoming and calming, and my students love having their own space to relax. The comfy chair pillows and earbuds have been a huge hit, giving them a cozy spot to focus on reading or quiet work. We recently started a \"Book Buddies\" program where older students pair up with younger ones to read. It's been so wonderful to see them using the new books and pillows to get comfortable and share stories.\r\n\r\nStudents' First Reactions\r\nThe students were so excited when they first saw the materials! Their eyes lit up, and they immediately started exploring the new books and testing out the pillows. One student exclaimed, \"This is the best classroom ever!\" They were so eager to get started and couldn't wait to find a new book to read. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and it was a special moment to witness.\r\n\r\nWhat's Next for Our Students\r\nThe students have been so inspired by the new books that we're launching a class-wide \"Reading Passport\" project. Each student will get a passport to track the books they read. After finishing a book, they'll write a short review or draw a picture and get a \"stamp\" in their passport. This project encourages them to read a variety of genres and share their favorite stories with their classmates.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your incredible support. We really appreciate your generosity!\r\nThe classroom items and equipment are so helpful for how our students learn and grow in their skills.\r\nThe printer and ink has been a wonderful addition to our classroom. It is super helpful in printing materials and projects. Now, printing is so easy. Whether it is printing research materials, additional supplementary aids, or providing different presentation options for students, which really boosts their academic skills, the printer is a game-changer.\r\nThe organizer has made a huge difference in keeping our classroom supplies tidy and easy to find. We have a place for our scissors, pencils, expo pens, or glue sticks! It helps us keep everything running smoothly. And the plug station is a lifesaver for our computers when we're working on assignments or projects. No more running out of battery in the middle! It keeps us powered up and focused on learning.\r\nThe students really enjoy reading the Dogman books! You should see how much the students love them. They're constantly reading and rereading, and it's awesome to see their reading skills and love for books just grow. The students LOVE the beanbags and have helped create a more comforting classroom environment. The students also found it great to have a place to dry their artwork. I was also so happy to have a place instead of their desks! \r\n\r\nThe day the items arrived, the students could not wait to use the beanbags! When the students first walked into the classroom and saw the colorful bean bags, their eyes lit up with curiosity and joy. There were immediate gasps and whispers of \"Are those for us?!\" followed by a chorus of excited \"Can we sit on them?!\" Now, these bean bags have become a favorite spot for independent reading, quiet reflection, and collaborative work. They provide a cozy, flexible seating option that allows students to choose a learning space that best suits their needs, fostering a sense of ownership and comfort in our classroom. It's wonderful to see them curled up with a book or discussing ideas with a partner, all while nestled in their new favorite spots.\r\n\r\nEqually impactful has been the art drying rack. As soon as they saw it, the students were fascinated by its numerous shelves. It quickly became clear to them that this was a dedicated space for their creations. Before, drying artwork was a logistical challenge, often involving makeshift drying areas on desks or floors. The art drying rack has impacted our art projects. Students now proudly place their masterpieces on the rack, watching as their paint or glue dries without fear of smudging or damage. It teaches them about organization and patience, and it also validates their artistic efforts by providing a professional-looking space for their work to be displayed and preserved. It has streamlined our art lessons and allows for much more efficient cleanup and storage.\r\n\r\nBoth of these items, made possible by your generosity, have significantly enhanced our classroom's functionality and aesthetic. They have created a more comfortable, organized, and inspiring space where students feel valued and empowered in their learning and creative pursuits.\r\n\r\nI plan to implement the pencil organizer for next school year, but it will take place of the toothbrush holders I have now for their pencils. The organizer will hopefully contribute to less pencils going missing and the everyday comment of, \"I don't have a pencil.\" \r\n\r\nThank you once again for your incredible kindness and for investing in our students' education. However, this excitement soon gave way to concern as I realized the challenge of neatly presenting and organizing such a wonderful collection. The addition of these book bins has been an absolute lifesaver for our classroom library! Now, instead of being crammed into assorted plastic bins and cubbies, the books are organized by genre and interest, allowing students to easily browse and select titles that appeal to them. I've already noticed a significant increase in how frequently my students visit the library and how quickly they can find books they are eager to read.\r\n\r\nBeyond the library, the extra bins have proven incredibly useful for organizing our Writing Workshop folders, RTI small group work materials, and even some of our learning games used during center rotations. The zipper pouches have been equally beneficial, allowing me to efficiently package and store our teacher-made learning games. This streamlined system makes it quick for both students and me to access and clean up after using the games, contributing to a more organized and less distracting learning environment amidst our various center choices. I'm eager to continue enhancing our organized spaces by having students help design genre labels for the book bins and by further diversifying our library collection to be more culturally inclusive and relevant to their interests.","fullyFundedDate":1728693880184,"projectUrl":"project/organize-to-energize-inspiring-readers/8868268/","projectTitle":"Organize to Energize: Inspiring Readers in a Tidy Library","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gallego","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3738843_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x577,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1728368209556","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3738843"},{"teacherId":9779132,"projectId":8857854,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your generous contribution to my DonorsChoose project, \"Financial Literacy Fun.\" Your support is going to make learning about money management an exciting and engaging experience for my third-grade students.\r\n\r\nWith your help, we will be able to create a dynamic and interactive board game that teaches essential financial literacy concepts like budgeting, saving, and making informed financial decisions. These exciting games have become invaluable tools for reinforcing previously taught phonics and algebraic skills. My students eagerly anticipate selecting a game to play together once they've completed their daily classwork. The excitement was visible when the boxes began arriving in our classroom; the first graders couldn't wait to open them and discover what treasures were inside. Some of their current favorites include Math Island, the LIFE board game, and the forest animal coding games. It's rewarding to see these games consistently be the first ones chosen by students as they gather in groups, collaborating to solve the various puzzles.\r\n\r\nWhat's particularly special about these games and learning centers is their seamless integration with our social-emotional learning curriculum. While our grade level focuses on a different character trait each month and we only have dedicated character education time on Wednesday afternoons due to our full daily schedule (encompassing ELA, Math, Writing, Science, Social Studies, and Specials like PE, art, music, and health), these new learning games provide my class with consistent opportunities to put these lessons into practice. Students actively demonstrate collaboration by taking turns, problem-solving who goes first, listening to each other's ideas, and navigating the often challenging but crucial skill of compromise. They also practice perseverance when games become difficult or don't go as planned, and they have authentic chances to show empathy and kindness towards one another. These 15-minute game sessions with the learning centers, at least three times a week, are proving to be both academically and socially invaluable for my class. Furthermore, it has become a fun and interactive way for me to build stronger, more positive relationships with my students. This strengthened rapport fosters greater respect and trust, which in turn positively impacts their learning behavior and their willingness to engage in new learning tasks with me.
