Because of your donation, my students now have access to resources that make learning more hands-on, engaging, and accessible. We have already begun using these materials during daily lessons and small-group instruction, and they have been especially helpful in supporting different learning styles and individual needs. One of my favorite moments was seeing students confidently use the resources independently and proudly explain their work to classmates.\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were excited and curious. Many of them immediately wanted to explore and ask questions about how the new supplies would be used. For students who often struggle with engagement or confidence, these resources helped spark motivation and a genuine interest in learning. Seeing their enthusiasm reminded me how meaningful it is to provide tools that meet students where they are and help them succeed.\r\nNext, we will continue integrating these resources into ongoing lessons and projects to build skills, reinforce concepts, and encourage collaboration. Your support has made a lasting impact on our classroom environment and on my students' growth as learners. Because of your kindness, my students now have access to resources that make learning more engaging, interactive, and meaningful. Many of my students are in a special education setting, and the materials you helped provide allow them to access lessons in ways that support their individual learning needs. The technology and classroom tools have helped break down barriers so students can better understand reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting things for my students has been the opportunity to actively participate in lessons using these new resources. Instead of simply listening, they are now able to interact with the material, practice skills, and build confidence in their abilities. I have seen students who once struggled to stay engaged become more focused and willing to participate. These tools have helped them feel more successful and motivated in the classroom.\r\n\r\nYour support is making a real difference. Students who sometimes doubt their academic abilities are now experiencing moments of confidence and growth. One student exclaimed, \"Wait—these are for us?\" It was a moment that really reminded me how small acts of kindness can mean so much. Having access to snacks during class has helped students stay energized, focused, and more engaged in their reading and writing tasks.\r\n\r\nIn ELA, we're working on building reading stamina and improving writing fluency. With snacks available, students are better able to settle in and concentrate on their work. During a recent \"sustained silent reading\" session, I noticed students were not only reading longer but discussing their books more deeply afterward. One student even shared that they \"used to get so distracted by being hungry, but now I can actually finish a whole chapter.\"\r\n\r\nWe also used the snacks as part of a fun, creative writing activity: students chose a snack and wrote a descriptive paragraph using sensory language—taste, smell, texture, and emotion. It turned into a surprisingly powerful lesson on word choice and imagery!\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're diving into a new unit on personal narratives, and having a calm, supportive environment (complete with brain-fueling snacks!) is helping students feel more comfortable sharing their stories.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible. Your contribution didn't just fill our snack bin—it helped fill our classroom with warmth, focus, and the joy of learning.","fullyFundedDate":1732285198378,"projectUrl":"project/because-mental-health-matters/8806714/","projectTitle":"Because Mental Health Matters!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Collins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9700589_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725731429333","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9700589"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_50526","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":736,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":91,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"18.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":54.5,"schoolId":50526,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lucy C Laney High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lucy C Laney High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/richmond-county-school-system/lucey-c-laney-high-school/50526"}
