Having access to snacks during class has helped students stay energized, focused, and more engaged in their reading and writing tasks.\r\n\r\nIn ELA, we're working on building reading stamina and improving writing fluency. With snacks available, students are better able to settle in and concentrate on their work. During a recent \"sustained silent reading\" session, I noticed students were not only reading longer but discussing their books more deeply afterward. One student even shared that they \"used to get so distracted by being hungry, but now I can actually finish a whole chapter.\"\r\n\r\nWe also used the snacks as part of a fun, creative writing activity: students chose a snack and wrote a descriptive paragraph using sensory language—taste, smell, texture, and emotion. The iPad provided access to a wide range of mindfulness and relaxation apps designed to help students manage stress and anxiety. Some popular options included:\r\n\r\nHeadspace: Offers guided meditation sessions and mindfulness exercises.\r\n\r\nCalm: Provides breathing exercises, sleep stories, and relaxing music.\r\n\r\nInsight Timer: Features a vast library of free meditations and talks.\r\n\r\nJournaling and Mood Tracking is also a new alternative available through the use of the iPad.\r\nKeeping a journal or tracking moods can be beneficial for mental health awareness and reflection. the iPads have apps tailored for this purpose:\r\n\r\nDay One: A digital journal that allows students to record thoughts and feelings.\r\n\r\nMoodPath: Helps track emotional well-being and provides insights over time. \r\n\r\nReflectly: Uses artificial intelligence to offer personalized journal prompts. \r\n\r\nWe've kept busy finding new and innovative ways to support our students and look forward to continued development for our students. My students enjoyed all the new paint colors to choose from. Also, the students used the small canvases to create ornaments to put on their Christmas trees. \r\n I created Paint Club for artistic and non artistic students to come relax and paint their version of a masterpiece. Painting and drawing helps to enhance fine motor skills, as well as improve hand-eye coordination. It is also good for developing problem-solving skills. Even if a student is not talented at art, they will still feel a sense of accomplishment. This helps boosts student's self-esteem.\r\n This club has been packed to the max since the beginning of the year. I have over 30 students in this club. Providing canvases and paint for all of them for each club day was a little stressful on me. Your donation allowed the students to participate in the assignment, while relieving me of the stress of buying everyone materials.
