The books have provided our students with fresh, high-interest reading materials that support their language development, while the games have turned learning into a fun and interactive experience. The whiteboards and highlighters have been especially useful during small group instruction, allowing students to practice writing, spelling, and sentence-building in a hands-on way. One of our favorite moments was using the new books for a read-aloud and discussion activity, where students eagerly highlighted key vocabulary words and then used their whiteboards to create their own sentences using the new words. Seeing their confidence grow as they practiced was truly rewarding.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their faces lit up with excitement! They were thrilled to see new books and games, immediately asking when they could start using them. Some students even picked up books and began flipping through them right away, pointing out pictures and words they recognized. The games quickly became a classroom favorite, with students eagerly working together to practice their language skills while having fun. These resources have made learning more engaging and accessible for all my ESOL students, especially those at lower proficiency levels who benefit from visual and interactive learning.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using these materials to support our current lessons on storytelling and writing. Students are working on retelling stories using key details, and the whiteboards and highlighters are helping them organize their thoughts before writing. As we progress, they will use the books and games to build their vocabulary and comprehension skills, preparing them to write their own short stories. Thanks to these resources, my students are developing a love for learning and growing more confident in their English skills every day!","fullyFundedDate":1733805177957,"projectUrl":"project/esol-teacher-looking-to-make-a-differenc/8817861/","projectTitle":"ESOL Teacher Looking to Make a Difference","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Runyon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9776528_orig.jpg?crop=1175,1175,x0,y35&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733824031702","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9776528"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_53588","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":572,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":61,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":36,"percentWhite":43,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.1,"schoolId":53588,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about McGarity Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"McGarity Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/paulding-county-school-district/mcgarity-elementary-school/53588"}
