These students often face significant challenges in communication, motor skills, and cognitive processing, and traditional tools don't always meet their unique learning styles.\r\n\r\nThe Kindle Scribe has opened up new opportunities in several key ways:\r\n\r\nAccessibility & Customization: The ability to adjust font sizes, spacing, and contrast makes reading more accessible for students with visual impairments or cognitive delays.\r\nInteractive Engagement: The stylus allows students to interact with text directly—highlighting, underlining, or drawing—which helps improve focus, comprehension, and retention.\r\nDigital Writing Practice: Students who struggle with fine motor skills find the Kindle Scribe easier to use than paper and pencil, giving them a more comfortable way to practice writing, tracing, or drawing.\r\nOrganization & Independence: The device helps students keep their work organized digitally, supporting greater independence and reducing the frustration that can come with lost or torn paper materials.\r\nSensory Considerations: For students with sensory processing issues, the Kindle Scribe offers a calm, screen-based experience without the overstimulation that can come from other technology or paper clutter.\r\nMost importantly, it gives my students a sense of ownership over their learning. They're excited to use it—something that can be rare when education feels out of reach. Seeing their eyes light up when they complete a task or express themselves through writing is incredibly powerful.\r\n\r\nThe Kindle Scribe isn't just a piece of technology in our room—it's a bridge to learning, communication, and confidence for students who are often underserved by traditional tools.","fullyFundedDate":1725741132652,"projectUrl":"project/kindle-scribe-enhancing-accessibility-a/8740303/","projectTitle":"Kindle Scribe: Enhancing Accessibility and Well-being in Special Education","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Drake","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9730515"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_50285","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":690,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":70,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":18,"percentWhite":59,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":52.6,"schoolId":50285,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Oglethorpe County High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Oglethorpe County High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/oglethorpe-county-school-district/oglethorpe-co-high-school/50285"}
