The replacement strings allowed us to replace ones that had broken due to regular use. We have been using sponges rubber-banded to the violins as a substitute until we could get shoulder rests, but they do not give them same kind of support.\r\n\r\nWhen we were able to play with the shoulder rests for the first time, my students were amazed at how much easier it was to hold the violin in the correct posture. The violin didn't slip off their shoulders any more, and it reduced the tension in their shoulders created by trying to hold in without the shoulder rests. String instruments can last a lifetime, with regular maintenance. This includes changing out the strings to help the instrument stay in tune and produce a good tone.
