The replacement strings allowed us to replace ones that had broken due to regular use. The violin didn't slip off their shoulders any more, and it reduced the tension in their shoulders created by trying to hold in without the shoulder rests. String instruments can last a lifetime, with regular maintenance. This includes changing out the strings to help the instrument stay in tune and produce a good tone.
