After examining his work, we got to making our own glass inspired sculptures using colorful permanent markers and plastic cups. Student were asked to color their cups using any patterns or designs of their choosing. They loved trying to recreate the patterns in Chihuly's sculptures! The next step is where the students were really amazed. They got to help use a heat gun to warp their plastic cup into a beautiful organic sculpture. They loved watching their designs bend and shift into something new and unexpected!\r\n\r\nThe most amazing moment was watching the students hold their \"glass\" sculptures up to the light to watch the ray of colors! So much student joy and they are so incredibly proud of their work! Some of the other grade levels were so impressed with their work they want the whole school to complete the project. Its a good thing we have so many generously donated markers! Here's to more student joy in the art room!","fullyFundedDate":1754745585391,"projectUrl":"project/dale-chihuly-sculptures/9545066/","projectTitle":"Dale Chihuly Sculptures","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wiseman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9133369_orig.jpg?crop=2123,2123,x510,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754485035471","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9133369"},{"teacherId":6213444,"projectId":9416655,"letterContent":"We are so excited to use our book pouches this year. We are able to keep them packed with \"just right\" books for our reading levels, along with other tools that enhance our reading capabilities. Each night my students have the opportunity to safely travel home with books to read independently. This allows them to practice reading whether they have someone to help or not. This also allows the families to be involved in our learning by taking the time and reading those books each night. The sturdiness and quality of the bags will allow us to use them all year, and possibly subsequent years.\r\n\r\nResearch shows that reading an additional 30 minutes each night will greatly improve overall reading skills.
