We kept reading simple and active. Short read-alouds, quick sketch-notes, and small-group chats. Students learned how to pull evidence from the text, track themes like perseverance and mentorship, and translate ideas into design choices on clay tiles and simple vessels. Reading in my ceramics class looked like pencils moving, hands in clay, and students discussing options in their choices. It was perfect!\r\n\r\nThe impact showed up in small, everyday ways. Quiet readers spoke up during partner talks. Hands-on learners connected faster when they could sketch a passage before writing about it. A few students who struggle to finish projects stayed with the process longer after we tied \"slow, careful work\" to key moments in the story. Nothing flashy, just steady growth in focus, vocabulary, and pride. Suddenly, they can peen out of glazes. You saved the day! One student told me, \"It feels like we're painting on pottery, not just covering it.\"\r\n\r\nWe are currently in the middle of a unit where students are creating sculptural pieces inspired by personal identity. The underglazes allow them to make much more detailed and expressive surface designs: whether it's a portrait with lifelike skin tones, symbolic imagery, or bold, graphic patterns. Instead of glazing being the final step, it has become a creative extension of the sculpting process.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has given my students a professional-level tool that they've never had access to before. My students were so excited when our new camera and supplies arrived. Today, we are trying out the shorter lens to capture our departmental staff photos. The photographer for the departmental page has already been working with the portrait function to make sure we capture the right moment. \r\n The cameras that we have currently are very outdated and do not take quality photos. We used to use our cell phones due to the great quality, but our school district is enforcing a no cell phone policy this year, so that really put a damper on our quality of photos.
