This mentorship is providing in-depth instruction on the science of reading, multisensory strategies, and the structure of the English language. I'm learning how to design lessons that are explicit, systematic, and tailored to each learner's needs—especially those who struggle with decoding and fluency. Every session deepens my understanding of how children learn to read and gives me new confidence in providing targeted intervention.\r\n\r\nThe highlight of this experience is watching Orton-Gillingham expert, Jennings Miller, model multisensory routines in action. Seeing how quickly students respond to strategies like tactile letter tracing, syllable division, and phoneme manipulation show me just how powerful this approach can be. I leave feeling re-energized and inspired to bring that same structure, joy, and clarity to my own classroom.\r\n\r\nOne specific strategy I now use daily is the \"visual-auditory-kinesthetic drill.\" My students practice sounds using sand trays, letter tiles, and verbal repetition, engaging multiple pathways in the brain. Since incorporating this, I've seen remarkable gains in confidence and accuracy—especially from my struggling readers.
