The few books that have already arrived and been added to our shelves have made a profound impact on my scholars. These new additions are helping introduce a range of essential literacy skills, including inferencing, identifying main ideas, and understanding character development. More importantly, they've sparked meaningful conversations around empathy, diversity, and resilience. In our classroom, reading has become a vibrant, student-centered experience. Whether scholars are shopping for books, reading independently, or participating in guided reading groups, there is a clear increase in engagement, confidence, and focus.\r\n\r\nStudents are now genuinely excited to reach for their book baggies and begin reading—often without being prompted. This shift in attitude and ownership over their reading is a direct result of your generosity and belief in the importance of providing a variety of high-quality, engaging books across genres. Your support is helping build not only stronger readers but also more thoughtful, curious learners. The finger paint, crayons, pencil sharpener, and art caddies quickly became favorites, giving students new ways to explore creativity while also helping them take responsibility for their supplies. One unforgettable moment happened during a science lesson when students used the recordable buzzers to answer the question, \"Is it living or nonliving?\" Hearing their own voices made their faces light up, and even my shyest students participated with confidence. The buzzers, along with the desk name plates and organizers, created an inclusive and welcoming classroom environment where every child felt ownership and pride.\r\n\r\nThese resources will continue to strengthen our learning experiences in the months ahead. In our upcoming science unit on how animals use their structures to survive, students will use the buzzers to share observations, the crayons and finger paint to create detailed scientific diagrams, and the caddies to keep materials organized and accessible. Your generosity has transformed our classroom, allowing us to spend more time exploring, creating, and learning together. Because of your support, my students are building academic skills while developing confidence, independence, and joy within their classroom community.","fullyFundedDate":1758202808575,"projectUrl":"project/help-me-build-a-classroom-where-first-ye/9414244/","projectTitle":"Help Me Build a Classroom Where First-Year Magic Happens!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. M","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9607014_orig.jpg?crop=1001,1001,x60,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749884697161","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9607014"},{"teacherId":9751193,"projectId":8787250,"letterContent":"Your donations have helped us grow brains and close gaps. We use the sheet protectors in our math folders as flexible dry erase boards and interchange resources as needed. For instance, plotting fractions on a blank number line, drawing hands on a blank analog clock, and solving equations on a blank place value chart inserted into the sheet protector. The rulers were used to measure various objects in classroom measurement hunts, and the grouping circles were an excellent floor tool for classifying 2-dimensional shapes. The oversized dry erase pocket sleeves mobilized our small intervention groups, which usually took us outside of the school building for immersive sessions. The Tabletop Sticky Easel Pad and Dry Erase Boards allowed the scholars to work vertically in small groups around the room by creating mini work stations, where they were able to leave the desks and utilize the entire classroom.\r\n\r\nThe scholars really enjoyed working on our digital escape room. It was a scholar-led activity which encouraged scholar voice, vertical collaboration, tenacity and appreciation of mistakes and showing work. They were in random groups of three, set up in mini stations around the room. Scholars were so engaged in the activity most groups stood over half of the class period jotting down math equations, drawing models and interchanging strategies. The reward for escaping the room was free computer time on a learning app, but many scholars asked to consult a group trapped in the escape room instead of indulging in their reward. This was a whole body experience due to the table top easels that allowed scholars to think and do math differently. Furthermore, the scholars were beyond excited to use the fraction tiles to compare equivalent fractions. They even challenged themselves to assemble the strips without using the labeled side of the tiles. This tool was a hands-on resource that allowed our scholars to visualize, and manipulate a complex and abstract concept, and solidify their understanding. \r\nMy goal is to build a thinking classroom, where scholars are inspired, encouraged and empowered to develop a rich understanding of mathematical concepts through hand-on-minds-on activities and productive struggle. I am on a mission to de-front the classroom and use the space in inspiring and non-traditional ways to encourage scholars to take ownership of their thinking and invest in their understanding. Math is all around us and we do an injustice by keeping it in a book and desk. Getting scholars out of their box (the desk) and teachers out of their box (the front of the room at a board) allows us to learn and explore the mathematics embedded in our world. By doing math in a way that connects the fluidity of real-life we can foster a deep knowing. All of my scholars are mathematicians with innate understanding of math and I was able to nurture and facilitate their development with your help.","fullyFundedDate":1736207743403,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-thinking-classroom-with-verti/8787250/","projectTitle":"Building a Thinking Classroom With Vertical Groups","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Batiste","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9751193_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726455176420","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9751193"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_129072","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":409,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":94,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 3","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":129072,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Ethos Classical Charter School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Ethos Classical Charter School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/georgia-department-of-education/ethos-classical-charter-school/129072"}
