During guided math lessons, students work through scaffolded problem sets in multiplication, fractions, and multi-step word problems. As they demonstrate mastery—whether through independent practice, partner work, or formative assessments—they earn points toward a prize of their choice. The reward system keeps them motivated to push through challenging concepts, knowing their effort directly translates to progress they can see and celebrate. The math toys and prizes create accountability and excitement around learning goals. Last week, a group of students who struggle with fractions completed a full set of fraction comparison problems to earn their points. They were laser-focused, knowing exactly what they needed to accomplish. The prizes aren't frivolous—they're the motivational fuel that keeps students engaged during rigorous math instruction.
