This space has quickly become an essential part of our kindergarten classroom. My students use the resources daily to practice identifying their emotions, calming their bodies, and learning how to self-regulate. One especially meaningful moment happened when a student who was feeling overwhelmed independently chose to visit the Calm Down Corner, used a breathing tool, and returned to the group ready to learn. Watching such young children build these skills with confidence has been incredibly rewarding!!\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their reactions were pure excitement and curiosity. They were eager to explore the bean bag chair, sensory tools, and visual supports, and many immediately shared how the space made them feel \"safe,\" \"happy,\" or \"calm.\" We spent time learning how and when to use the area, and the students took great pride in treating the space with care. It was clear from the very beginning that this corner felt special and meaningful to them!\r\n\r\nMoving forward, our next steps include using the Calm Down Corner as part of our ongoing social-emotional learning lessons. We are practicing naming emotions, problem-solving with peers, and using calming strategies. Your generosity has made a lasting impact by giving my students tools they will carry with them far beyond kindergarten. Receiving grow lights for our plants has truly been a game changer. The plants, which we previously struggled to keep healthy with the limited natural light in our room, are now thriving. The kids are so excited to see them grow, and the process has sparked so many curious questions and discussions about how plants need light, water, and care to survive. It's a fantastic hands-on learning experience for my students, giving them a deeper connection to nature right inside our classroom.\r\n\r\nNot only have the plants flourished, but so has the energy in the room. The children have taken on the responsibility of watering the plants, observing their growth, and even recording changes in their little plant journals. It's amazing to watch them engage with the material in such an authentic way. The grow lights have helped foster a sense of responsibility and teamwork, as the students work together to take care of the plants. It's not just about the plants anymore; it's about fostering a love for science, nature, and the joy of watching something grow, which is such a rewarding experience for both me and my students.","fullyFundedDate":1737699751285,"projectUrl":"project/grow-lights-for-growing-plants/9077226/","projectTitle":"Grow Lights for Growing Plants!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kellie Sprinkle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9500581_orig.jpg?crop=464,464,x592,y262&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1711545134792","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9500581"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_55431","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":529,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":6,"percentAsian":15,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":63,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":93.5,"schoolId":55431,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Timber Ridge Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Timber Ridge Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/cobb-county-school-district/timber-ridge-elementary-school/55431"}
