The new drones, Sphero robots, and microscope slides have opened up exciting opportunities for hands-on exploration and STEM learning. Students have been coding their Spheros to navigate obstacle courses that they designed themselves, using problem-solving and teamwork to adjust their code and improve performance. With the drones, they've been learning about flight patterns, measurement, and precision control — connecting science and math concepts in real-world ways.\r\n\r\nOne of the most memorable moments was the day we unboxed everything. The room filled with gasps and cheers as students realized they'd get to use real robots and drones in class. A few even jumped up to help unpack and immediately started brainstorming how to integrate them into their ongoing science projects.\r\n\r\nRight now, students are combining their new tools in an interdisciplinary \"Exploring Our World\" unit — using drones to map outdoor study areas, microscope slides to observe local plant samples, and Spheros to simulate data collection paths. The next step is for them to analyze and present their findings, connecting digital technology and scientific inquiry in ways that make learning both meaningful and memorable.\r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just fund supplies — it fueled inspiration, curiosity, and confidence. The materials that we got through this grant have made a huge impact in my STEM lab. With these materials, students were able to see physical and chemical changes in real life, which allowed them to understand the scientific principles at play. The books that were purchased allow me to learn new and exciting ways to engage my students with chemical changes. I also used the Bio Cards to introduce my students to the concept of taxonomy, which is often a difficult topic on our state test. The addition of Microbit, lesson books, and Ozobots has completely transformed how students engage with technology and problem-solving. While many of our donors are familiar with using technology for communication or entertainment, these tools give students a chance to create with technology — to design, code, and see their ideas come to life.\r\n\r\nThe Microbit have introduced my students to the fundamentals of coding and circuitry in a hands-on, accessible way. They've learned how to program LED displays, measure temperature, and even create simple games. The Ozobots have been just as exciting — students are using color coding to direct movement, practicing logic, sequencing, and collaboration as they design mazes and challenges for their robots to solve.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is seeing immediate feedback from their work. When a program runs successfully, their faces light up — they're proud to see that they made something move, blink, or react. It turns abstract concepts into something real and empowering.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular, who was usually quiet and hesitant to speak up, has become our go-to expert for debugging code. They've gained confidence by helping classmates fix errors and now talk about wanting to become a software engineer one day.\r\n\r\nThese new tools have opened doors for every student to explore creativity, critical thinking, and perseverance through technology.
