Your support means the world to our students and has already made an incredible impact on their physical education experience.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, my students were so excited to see them! They couldn't wait to jump in and start using the equipment. One highlight so far was our Thanksgiving Cornhole Tournament, where students not only enjoyed friendly competition but also strengthened their sense of community and teamwork. It was such a joy to see their smiles and enthusiasm as they cheered each other on and celebrated their successes.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has truly transformed our ability to engage students in physical activity, even without a gym facility of our own. These resources provide opportunities for movement, fun, and skill-building that would not have been possible otherwise.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I'm committed to continuing to find creative ways to support and uplift our Newcomer students. Whether it's through introducing new activities, organizing tournaments, or exploring additional projects, your kindness inspires me to keep pushing for new opportunities that help our students grow stronger together—both physically and emotionally.\r\n\r\nThank you for being a vital part of their journey and for giving them a warm welcome to their new home and school.","fullyFundedDate":1729809695755,"projectUrl":"project/strength-in-play-supporting-newcomer-he/8753187/","projectTitle":"Strength in Play: Supporting Newcomer Health and Fitness","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wilson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9242809_orig.png?crop=500,500,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1704996672723","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9242809"},{"teacherId":9716691,"projectId":8719516,"letterContent":"You made my year! I love books, I need books, I can't live without being surrounded by books; and I had made it my mission to make books accessible to as many children as I can. During the past couple of years I have worked on building a small classroom library and I make a point of providing my students with times when I read to them, or they have time to discover and enjoy books. Incorporating multilingual and multicultural books into my classroom has had a profound impact on both the students and the learning environment. Here are some keyways these books have made a difference:\r\n1.\tAccessibility: Providing materials in the students' first languages has made the books more accessible to them, especially at their current stage of English development.\r\n2.\tSense of Community: These books have helped create a sense of community within the classroom. By including stories and perspectives from various cultures, students see their own backgrounds reflected in the stories and they learn about their classmates' cultures. \r\n3.\tEmotional Support: When students see their cultures and languages represented in the classroom, it makes them feel loved and appreciated. This emotional support is crucial for their overall well-being and helps them adjust to their new environment more comfortably.\r\n4.\tFacilitating Discussions: Multilingual and multicultural books have facilitated organic discussions about the students' experiences. These discussions allow students to share their personal stories and cultural backgrounds. It also promotes empathy and understanding among classmates, as they learn about each other's diverse experiences.\r\n\r\nNow in my classroom we organically share about our traditions, our food, and our immigration experience. I hear the students share: \"His story (book character) is like mine. The same happen to me.\" \"This book is great.\" \"Do we have this book in English too? I would like to read it in the two languages.\" Overall, the inclusion of these books has not only supported the students' language development but also contributed to a more inclusive, empathetic, and engaging classroom environment. \r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you very much for your support!!","fullyFundedDate":1726501200923,"projectUrl":"project/multilingual-library-for-multilingual-le/8719516/","projectTitle":"Multilingual Library for Multilingual Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Snyder","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9716691"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_107892","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":800,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":70,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":45,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":26,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":107892,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sims Academy of Innovation & Technical on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sims Academy of Innovation & Technical","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/barrow-county-school-district/sims-academy-of-innovation-tech/107892"}
