We were also able to get jolly ranchers and glittery sticky hands. When my students first learned about snacks being funded by Donors Choose and used in the classroom as incentives and motivators for hard work, I instantly saw how elated they were. It is a very common occurrence for students to come up to me and ask \"What can I do for you in the classroom?\" It is truly remarkable to see how much of a positive impact giving students rewards for achievement really is! \r\n\r\nIn my classes, students that used to be nonchalant in my classroom now make efforts in class that they weren't putting in before, in the hopes of doing better. I have also seen an increase in class participation on school work as well as students putting in the extra effort in maintaining a clean environment for other classes. \r\n\r\nIn the future, I would love to start a new project titled \"Classroom Music Supplies\". My hopes for this future project is to have music supplies funded for my classroom. The more you read, the more you learn, the better you feel about yourself and world around you.\r\n\r\nThe kindness certificates and stickers also help build self esteem and on task behavior, they love to get rewarded with stickers when they complete an assignment or help with a task. One moment that really stood out to me was during a group research activity when a student who usually struggles with focus was able to stay engaged and contribute ideas after having a quick snack. Many of my students read the books. They were able to have literature circles; a small group of students reading the same book and having in depth conversations about the book and how it relatives to them and the community. \r\nAdditionally the students were able to check the books out from the classroom library for a longer time than the regular library, so they had more time to read it at their pace. Many students bought the books for their own library. As an educator, I saw a love for reading reignited for my students through these beautiful books. \r\nTeaching at a Title 1 school most of our students do not get exposed enough to a wide variety of vocabulary and different types of sentence structure and dialogue. I was able to use the snacks in a variety of ways. I would use them as motivational tools, rewards, or even just to feed a hungry belly. I work in an area that serves a lower socio-economic status community so I know that not every home has food in the pantry. For my students that come to school hungry, they know they can come to me for a snack to hold them over until lunch.\r\nI have also learned that this age level (11-12 years) is greatly motivated by food! When they know food is the reward, they are far more likely to raise their hands to answer questions, share their ideas, or present to the class. They are growing like weeds at this age and need near-constant nurishment.\r\nIt also provides a way for me to build a relationship with my students. By providing them with a basic need, they learn they can trust me and can come to me with other things as well.\r\nThank you very much for your donations.
