Having first aid supplies readily available in our Taekwondo room means I can quickly take care of my students and get them back to learning when appropriate.\r\n\r\nThese supplies have helped create a safer and better-prepared environment for hundreds of students who participate in Taekwondo throughout the school year. Instead of having to leave the room to search for basic supplies, we now have what we need close by when those little accidents happen. This allows us to address minor injuries quickly while minimizing interruptions to instructional time.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, having a well-stocked first aid supply gives me another way to prioritize student safety while they challenge themselves physically, learn new skills, and become stronger and more confident martial artists. Board breaking is always one of my students' favorite activities because it gives them a physical way to see the results of their hard work, technique, and determination.\r\n\r\nThese materials have allowed my students to practice proper breaking techniques while building confidence and learning the importance of perseverance. There is nothing better than watching a student struggle with a board, make adjustments, try again, and finally break it! Each student now has a dedicated place to keep their helmet, chest protector, arm and shin guards, and other equipment together instead of having gear mixed up, misplaced, or piled around the room.\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited to receive the new bags and immediately loved having their own organized space for their equipment. Beyond keeping our Taekwondo room neater, the bags are helping students learn responsibility by taking care of their own gear and making sure everything is put away properly after class. They also help us keep equipment separated and cleaner, which is especially important when so many students use sparring gear throughout the school year.\r\n\r\nAs we continue developing our students' sparring skills, these bags will be used every week during practices, lessons, and competitions. Of the 18 Diary of a Wimpy Kid books that were ordered, there are 9 left unread on the shelf. If the 11 Baby-sitters Club graphic novels, I have one that is not currently checked out. The students are thrilled to have new books to read.\r\n\r\nSome people look at graphic novels and think that it is not \"real reading.\" Here in the Ocelot Oasis Library, we believe all reading is real reading. Graphic novels open doors for students. Our struggling readers are able to grab books that their friends are grabbing without feeling overwhelmed by blocks and pages of text, and they have images that can help support their understanding. Graphic novels are the new \"it\" type of book, and so many kids want to read them.
