It was a huge undertaking to start up a brand new self contained classroom at our middle school. Walking into the classroom for the first time, I knew I would need to ask for help in order to turn it from cold and unwelcoming to what is now a place students with sensory sensitivities and neurodivergence feel at home. \r\nThe classroom we have built has adaptive seating, which is a favorite among the more active students. The sensory tools have been a very popular commodity amongst the students who find themselves needing sensory stimulation. Every student has mentioned how relaxed they feel when they enter our classroom. What a compliment!\r\nStudents from previous years have asked their teachers if they could take sensory breaks in my classroom, which is exactly what the room is meant for. So, we did it! With your support, we accomplished our goal of creating a sensory friendly classroom. Thank you so much for your confidence in me as well as your generosity toward this project.
