My students and I have been using the new books every day during reading time, literature circles, and small-group lessons. Having a wider selection of titles has allowed each student to find something that truly speaks to them, whether it's a thrilling adventure, a touching story about friendship, or a nonfiction book that feeds their curiosity. One special moment came when a student who rarely showed interest in reading discovered a new favorite series from our collection and has been eagerly checking out each book in the set ever since.\r\n\r\nWhen the books first arrived, the excitement in the room was unforgettable. My students crowded around the boxes, carefully pulling out each title and immediately swapping favorites with one another. Their faces lit up as they realized these books were theirs to explore. It was a joyful reminder of how powerful access to good literature can be.\r\n\r\nNow that our library is complete, we're diving into a class-wide reading challenge where students track how many pages they read each week and share short book reviews with their peers. It is now readily available for them so that they do not have to wander around the classroom trying to get books or supplies. The book baskets have also helped keep our classroom and students more organized. Since all students must have a book to read at their desk, the book baskets help keep the books in good condition and not bended or folded by being crammed into a desk.\r\n\r\nReceiving the Pigeon books and the Dog Man books have had a great impact on my students. I had taught Kindergarten the year before, so I did not have a lot of books that were of interest to 2nd graders. In addition, I had several struggling readers, who could not find anything in my library to read that they liked or were interested in, or haven't already read. When the Dog Man books arrived, it changed everything. Students who were struggling readers were now wanting to finish work so they could read! I have students who, as soon as they finish a Dog Man book, go around the room looking to trade their book with someone else who has a Dog Man book that they haven't read. \r\n\r\nThe Pigeon books also created quite a stir. I began reading those at dismissal, while students needed to be quiet to wait for their name to be called.
