Two teachers worked together to help students explore the same topic from different perspectives.\r\n \r\nIn science class, students used the materials to complete an owl pellet dissection. They carefully pulled apart the pellets and identified the bones inside. Many students were excited and curious, especially since this was their first time doing a real dissection. They were eager to see what they would find and asked many questions during the activity.\r\n \r\nAfter the science lesson, students brought the bones to the art room to create still life drawings. Using charcoal, they focused on contour drawing and close observation. Georgia O'Keeffe's bone drawings were used as inspiration. Students enjoyed drawing objects they had already studied and were proud to turn their science work into artwork.\r\n \r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were very interested and excited to begin. The owl pellets immediately grabbed their attention, and students stayed engaged throughout both lessons. Students will continue learning about food chains and ecosystems in science, using the owl pellets as a real-world example. By pairing Riordan's engaging storytelling with our study of Greek mythology, geography, government, and culture, students will develop a deeper and more memorable understanding of the classical world. Already, the excitement is palpable: students who rarely volunteer are eagerly discussing characters, debating the attributes of the Olympian gods, and making meaningful connections between the myths and historical events.\r\nYour donation has provided far more than books—it has supplied inspiration, sparked curiosity, and created an authentic entry point into a civilization that can sometimes feel distant to middle-school learners. In a world where most technology feels \"on a screen,\" having the ability to quickly print worksheets, lab sheets, graphic organizers, and color visuals has given my 6th graders something they can hold, highlight, annotate, and truly make their own. This has especially helped my students who struggle with digital-only learning—they're now able to follow along more confidently and stay engaged during lessons.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students has been the ownership it gives them. They love being able to print their final copies of projects, science reports, and even classroom certificates. Something as simple as seeing their work in color, printed neatly and on real paper, has boosted their pride and encouraged higher-quality effort. A few students who are normally quiet in class have started asking if they can print their drafts to revise them—something they never showed interest in before.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular, who often shuts down during writing tasks online, now lights up when she gets to pick up her printed work and physically organize her ideas. We've had our LiveSchool (PBIS) program since the beginning of last school year and I wanted to find a way that we (School Counselors) could be involved. We had the idea of setting up a small \"school store\" cart that students could redeem their earned points for items they want such as fidgets, candy, chips, etc. This was a great way to teach students how to manage their points, delay instant gratification (if they didn't have enough points for something they wanted), and get to know the students on another level, rather than just visiting us in the counseling lobby. \r\n\r\nWe were able to implement this idea immediately and just last week we were able to add the items that were donated to us from this grant. So many items were donated that we set up the cart and two tables outside in our courtyard during students lunches. I wish I could show the excitement on their faces as they were thrilled to have more options to choose from.
