In my classroom, I work with students who have autism and other learning differences, and one of the biggest challenges is keeping them engaged with material that can sometimes feel overwhelming or abstract. The Cricut has completely transformed the way I can prepare lessons, activities, and visual supports. For example, one of our first projects was creating personalized name tags and word cards. Instead of plain index cards, we now have bright, colorful cutouts with pictures and words that students can connect with. This may sound small, but for my students, it made a huge difference. They were so excited to see their own names come to life in bold colors and fun shapes. Many of them carried the cards around proudly, showing them to their classmates and even bringing them to me again and again to say, \"That's mine!\" That ownership and pride in their work is exactly what I want to foster, and the Cricut helped make that possible.\r\n\r\nThe first time I set up the machine and showed them how it worked, the room was full of energy. My students are very curious, especially about technology, and when they saw the Cricut start to cut letters and shapes, their eyes lit up. They leaned over the table, whispering excitedly and pointing as the blade moved. One student even said it looked like \"a robot making magic,\" which felt like the perfect description. Several immediately started brainstorming ideas for what we could create next—labels for their desks, decorations for our bulletin board, even classroom signs that they could help design. It was such a joyful moment, and it reminded me how important it is to give students tools that make learning feel exciting and hands-on.\r\n\r\nWe've already used the Cricut to make visuals for reading and vocabulary lessons, as well as interactive bulletin boards where students can add their own pieces. Our next step is to use it for a big social studies project. We're studying U.S. history, and I plan to have the students design map pieces, icons, and labels to build a giant concept map on our wall. This will not only reinforce the content but also let the students collaborate in a creative, concrete way. The Cricut allows me to tailor each piece to their individual needs—larger print for some, picture icons for others, and colorful, engaging shapes for everyone. My students thrive when learning is broken down visually, and this resource has opened the door for me to create exactly what they need.\r\n\r\nI can't say enough how thankful I am for this donation. Having a Cricut in our classroom is more than just having a crafting tool—it's giving my students access to learning in a way that works for them. It makes abstract concepts visible, turns ordinary lessons into something hands-on, and helps students feel proud of their work. Seeing their excitement and confidence grow has been such a gift. Thank you for believing in our classroom and making this possible. Your generosity has given us not only a tool but also new opportunities for creativity, joy, and meaningful learning every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1712084610115,"projectUrl":"project/i-can-do-it-myself/8278150/","projectTitle":"I Can Do It Myself","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rubino","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3737944_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1628352150765","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3737944"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_46929","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":956,"numTeachers":63,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":49,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":33,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":65.7,"schoolId":46929,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Safety Harbor Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Safety Harbor Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/pinellas-county-schools/safety-harbor-middle-school/46929"}
