One meaningful moment was watching students work with a paraprofessional using guided reading and decodable books to practice phonics skills and then talk about the story they read. Students were able to apply letter–sound knowledge, reread for fluency, and celebrate their progress together, which helped build both confidence and a love for reading.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were excited and eager to explore them. Many immediately wanted to start reading and noticed that the books felt \"just right\" for them. The colorful, engaging texts sparked curiosity and helped students feel successful, which increased motivation and positive attitudes toward reading.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using these resources to strengthen phonics, fluency, and comprehension skills through guided small-group instruction. They will practice rereading texts, discussing what they've learned, and applying their skills to writing and classroom discussions. Thanks to our donors, students are taking important steps toward becoming confident, independent readers and know they are supported by a community that believes in their success.","fullyFundedDate":1760627932539,"projectUrl":"project/little-readers-big-dreams/9570792/","projectTitle":"Little Readers, Big Dreams","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Melissa Olsen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3068677"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_46890","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":446,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":92,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":73,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":51.0,"schoolId":46890,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lakewood Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lakewood Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/pinellas-county-schools/lakewood-elementary-school/46890"}
