It is hard to describe the radiant smiles on the children's faces when they arrived to see an alphabet carpet in our circle area of the classroom. Each of them started looking for the first letter of their name. \r\n\r\nAfter assembling the Sound tubs, our first activity used the first 4 letters we had been learning. With the items from the tubs dumped onto the sun in the middle of the carpet the children took turns choosing an object and named the item. Some of the children were able to identify the beginning letter sound and place the item in the correct alphabet tub. For those that were not able to recognize the sounds, friends in the group helped them to name and identify the sound that the item started with. \r\n\r\nWe look forward to additional activities that we can do to help us learn the letters and sounds as we continue our learning. Again, thank you for the ability to purchase items for our classroom that will not only make an impact in the current class but also classes in the future.","fullyFundedDate":1755804185625,"projectUrl":"project/touching-the-alphabet/9537144/","projectTitle":"Touching the Alphabet","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. \"Avis\" Eineder","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3939032_orig.jpg?crop=910,910,x0,y127&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762347923146","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msavis"},{"teacherId":2669646,"projectId":9116784,"letterContent":"When my students helped me open the boxes for the project, it truly felt like Christmas morning. Their eyes were so big and many were jumping up and down clapping. I explained to them that they had many people who were cheering them on and donated all of the items so they could be more successful in school. My 2nd graders wanted to challenge my 4th graders in a math contest and seeing the pizza fraction game got them so excited to win the trophy cups which were also included in the project. They wanted to win a trophy for math and one for reading.\r\n\r\nAll of my students have goals for the year. By using decodable books, the word toss game, and the Elkonin boxes, students have resources that will motivate them to reach their goals. All of the items in the project are manipulatives that the students will be able to use and hold in their hands as they learn, which will make the learning more meaningful and fun for them. The Orton Gillingham \"I Can Fly Reading Program\" will help all of my students in grades 2-5. Not only will they have lessons during school, but it also provides learning tools for families when they take home assignments.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of all of my students, thank you for contributing to this project and helping me create leaders in literacy.
