Students were excited to see the materials. Knowing that they did not have to financially contribute to the project put their mind at ease and let their creative juices flow. \r\nStudents were placed in groups and given a specific section of the skeleton to build with the provided materials. They were able to pick and choose whatever they thought would best help them build their section. Then they had to work together as a class to connect all the sections together.\r\nThis project was a wonderful change to the \"normal\" school assignments. Students learned problem solving, critical thinking, teamwork, and so much more. I enjoyed watching my students in a different light and seeing students that don't thrive in the traditional assignments come alive with this project.\r\nThank you again for your help and allowing students to learn in different ways.","fullyFundedDate":1739025742782,"projectUrl":"project/life-size-skeleton-through-class-collabo/8816280/","projectTitle":"Life Size Skeleton Through Class Collaboration","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ingebretsen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9775357"},{"teacherId":9775357,"projectId":8882488,"letterContent":"Thank you for your contribution to my classroom. Having these skeleton models in the classroom has really improved their engagement and success on our Skeletal Unit. Students know a handful of bones before they walk into my class, but these models were used to engage students to begin our unit. They worked collaboratively in groups on their first day of our unit to attempt to put the models together. There were not allowed to use any notes or resources. They had to talk and use problem solving skills to create the skeleton model. This helped them realize that there are a lot more bones than they thought in our body.\r\n\r\nStudents were excited to see the models and get an idea of the complexity of the skeletal system. Most groups were able to get most of the bones in the correct spot. The activity was not about getting it all correct, but engaging them in our new topic and giving students an opportunity to get up, work together, and problem solve.\r\n\r\nOnce students were excited about the new unit and realizing there was more to learn than they thought, they were motivated to stay focused during our unit and become masters at the skeletal system.","fullyFundedDate":1732205095183,"projectUrl":"project/disarticulated-life-size-skeleton-models/8882488/","projectTitle":"Disarticulated Life Size Skeleton Models","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ingebretsen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9775357"},{"teacherId":9775357,"projectId":8882452,"letterContent":"Thank you for your contribution to my classroom. Having these heart models in the classroom has really improved their engagement and success on our Circulatory Unit. Students were able to follow along with me while I was going over the heart structures by pointing them out on their own model. Also, students were able to quiz each other on the models in preparation for their quiz. When students have something in their hand, they are more likely to remember this interaction. The heart has many complicated structures, and it helped immensely on their quiz scores. \r\n\r\nStudents were excited to see the models and get an idea of what the heart looks like it the body. Several students mentioned that it is a lot more complicated than they thought the heart would be. It is not just the heart, but all the vessels coming in and out for the blood that shocked them. \r\n\r\nOnce students master the heart on a model, they will be able to dissect a sheep heart in their table groups. Again, having the models has prepared them for success in my class and their future EKG class their senior year.","fullyFundedDate":1734622764726,"projectUrl":"project/heart-models/8882452/","projectTitle":"Heart Models","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ingebretsen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9775357"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_46868","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1039,"numTeachers":98,"percentFrplEligible":92,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":51,"percentWhite":27,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"10.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":67.6,"schoolId":46868,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Boca Ciega High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Boca Ciega High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/pinellas-county-schools/boca-ciega-high-school/46868"}
