With new reeds, valve oil, tuning slide grease, and protective cases, students are now able to focus on making music instead of struggling with equipment that isn't functioning properly. These basic tools allow instruments to work the way they are supposed to, which helps students produce a stronger sound and develop better technique during daily rehearsals.\r\n\r\nWhen the supplies first arrived, students were excited to see that they would finally have the materials needed to keep their instruments in good condition. Woodwind players were especially excited to receive new reeds, since many had been trying to make worn or broken reeds last longer than they should. Brass players quickly noticed the difference once their valves were properly oiled and their slides could move smoothly again. These small improvements made playing more comfortable and allowed students to perform with greater confidence.\r\n\r\nThe instrument cases have also had a big impact. Our students travel between classrooms and rehearsal spaces throughout the day, and having proper protection for our instruments helps prevent damage and keeps them safe. Students are learning the importance of caring for their instruments and taking responsibility for maintaining them properly.\r\n\r\nBecause of these resources, I am able to spend more time teaching musical concepts such as tone quality, articulation, and ensemble balance instead of addressing equipment problems during rehearsal. My students are now able to fully participate every day, and our band can continue growing together as an ensemble. Your generosity has helped ensure that our students have the tools they need to succeed and take pride in their musical accomplishments.","fullyFundedDate":1764633715451,"projectUrl":"project/protecting-our-sound-essential-supplies/9935236/","projectTitle":"Protecting Our Sound: Essential Supplies for Young Musicians","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Goindoo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9905043"},{"teacherId":9905043,"projectId":9545770,"letterContent":"The addition of the classroom iPad has made a significant difference in how my students are able to learn and interact with music. In a music classroom, technology allows us to access digital sheet music, listen to professional recordings, slow down difficult passages, and use interactive apps that reinforce rhythm, pitch, and music reading skills. Instead of relying solely on limited printed materials, we can project or share music instantly, allowing every student to follow along and learn together. This flexibility helps students better understand what they are hearing and playing, which strengthens both their musical literacy and performance skills.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students has been the ability to see and hear music come to life through the iPad. They love being able to listen to recordings of the pieces they are learning and then immediately apply what they hear to their instruments. Using apps that allow them to practice rhythms, identify notes, and hear correct examples has made learning more interactive and engaging than traditional paper only instruction. We could really use more full sized iPads.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were initially hesitant about reading music have especially warmed up to using the technology. The visual and audio support helps them better understand the connection between the notes on the page and the sounds they produce on their instruments. For some students, hearing a passage played correctly before attempting it themselves has helped build their confidence and motivation to keep improving.\r\n\r\nCombined with the new method books, the iPad has helped create a more complete learning experience where students can see, hear, and practice music in multiple ways. These resources are helping students build stronger musical foundations and develop skills that will benefit them for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1755750407028,"projectUrl":"project/help-empower-young-musicians-with-tools/9545770/","projectTitle":"Help Empower Young Musicians With Tools to Succeed","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Goindoo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9905043"},{"teacherId":9905043,"projectId":9173101,"letterContent":"Thanks to the generosity of our donors, our woodwind and brass students now have access to quality mouthpieces, ligatures, and reeds that they are using every day in class rehearsals and small ensemble work. These resources have made an immediate difference in our classroom. Students are able to produce a clearer tone, play with better control, and perform passages that were previously difficult with worn or broken equipment.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful moments came when students received their new reeds and mouthpieces and were able to try them during rehearsal. Many of them immediately noticed the difference in their sound. Some students who had been struggling to play certain notes or maintain a consistent tone were suddenly able to play with more confidence and stability. Seeing their excitement as they heard the improvement in their own playing was incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nThese materials have also helped ensure that all of our students have an equitable experience in the band program. Some of our families are not able to regularly purchase reeds or replace damaged mouthpieces, so having these classroom resources ensures that every student can fully participate and continue developing their musical skills.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students are using these improved tools while preparing for upcoming performances and working on developing stronger ensemble balance and tone quality. With reliable equipment in their hands, they can focus on musical expression, listening skills, and working together as an ensemble. Instruments are used daily in our program, and having access to maintenance supplies and protective equipment allows us to prevent small issues from becoming major repairs that could take instruments out of students' hands for weeks.\r\n\r\nBefore this support, when an instrument had to be sent to the repair shop, students were sometimes without an instrument for over a month. This often caused them to fall behind their peers and limited what we could accomplish as an ensemble. Thanks to your donation, we are able to keep more instruments functioning in the classroom so students can continue learning without interruption.\r\n\r\nThe classroom set of tuners has also made a tremendous difference in our daily rehearsals. Students can now tune their instruments at the start of every class, helping them develop stronger listening skills, better pitch awareness, and a deeper understanding of musicianship. As a result, the overall sound and confidence of our ensemble continues to improve.\r\n\r\nYour support is helping build a sustainable band program that will serve not only our current students, but also the many young musicians who will walk into our band room for years to come. They competed to \"collect food\" from different settings, such as grains, elastic bands, and beans. We altered the surroundings to replicate environmental change after a few rounds.\r\nThank you so much again Donors Choose.","fullyFundedDate":1764362804317,"projectUrl":"project/cool-science-classroom-collab/9680187/","projectTitle":"Cool Science Classroom Collab","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cathleen Diosana","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10188887"},{"teacherId":9905043,"projectId":9832864,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support through DonorsChoose, our music program has been transformed in meaningful and lasting ways. The resources you provided, method books, clarinet reeds, and a classroom iPad, have opened doors for my students that were previously out of reach.\r\n\r\nThe instrument method books have become a foundation for daily learning. For many of my students, this is the first time they've had their very own music book to learn from, mark in, and take pride in. These books have helped them understand how to read music, practice independently, and build confidence as developing musicians. Instead of feeling lost or left behind, students now have the tools they need to grow at their own pace.\r\n\r\nThe clarinet reeds may seem like small items, but their impact has been enormous. For our clarinet players, having reliable reeds meant they could produce a clear sound, stay motivated, and truly enjoy the process of learning their instrument. Several students who were struggling before have blossomed simply because they finally had equipment that worked for them.\r\n\r\nThe classroom iPad has been a game-changer. With limited printed materials and tight classroom space, having access to digital sheet music, audio examples, and interactive learning apps has kept students more engaged than ever. It has allowed us to explore music in ways that weren't possible before, slowing down tracks, looping tricky passages, projecting examples, and giving students access to a wider variety of resources than we could ever keep in print.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project has given my students something far bigger than supplies: it has given them a sense of belonging, pride, and possibility. Many of them come from families facing financial hardship, and having access to the same tools as students in more resourced communities has shown them that they are worthy of investment, opportunity, and artistic growth.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students walk into the music room excited, prepared, and confident. They feel supported, not just by their school, but by people who believe in their potential.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping music become a place where every student can thrive. Before receiving these supplies, even small repairs could leave an instrument out of service for weeks or months. When that happened, students sometimes had to sit out of rehearsals or fall behind while waiting for repairs. With these tools and supplies, we are now able to address many minor issues right in the band room so students can continue learning without interruption.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful moments came when students realized they could help bring their instruments back to life. Simple fixes such as tightening loose parts, replacing worn components, or making small adjustments allowed instruments that had been sitting unused to return to rehearsal. Students were excited to see how quickly an instrument could go from unplayable to producing a strong sound again.\r\n\r\nThis project also created a valuable teaching opportunity. Students are learning how to properly care for and maintain their instruments, which is an important skill for any musician. Understanding how their instrument works helps them take greater responsibility for protecting and maintaining it.\r\n\r\nBecause of these resources, we are able to keep more students playing every day, strengthen our ensemble sound, and spend more time focusing on music-making rather than waiting on repairs. Our students take great pride in hearing their instruments come together as a full band, and your support has helped make that possible. The impact of this project will continue to benefit our program and future students for many years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1754850067539,"projectUrl":"project/fix-it-and-amplify-it/9549840/","projectTitle":"Fix It and Amplify It","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Goindoo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9905043"},{"teacherId":9671445,"projectId":8658736,"letterContent":"I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for your generous support of our project, \"Chickens in the Classroom: Hatching Science in Action.\" Your donation provided us with an incubator and hatching materials that have completely transformed our science classroom. My 8th-grade students, many of whom had never experienced hands-on science before, were filled with excitement and curiosity from the moment they saw the incubator and learned that we would be hatching real chicks right in our room!\r\n\r\nSince receiving the materials, we've begun incubating 18 fertilized eggs. The students have been observing and tracking the development of each egg daily. They've taken on responsibilities like monitoring the temperature, checking humidity levels, and even managing the egg turning schedule. Watching them step into the role of real-life scientists—asking questions, making hypotheses, and collecting observational data—has been one of the most powerful and engaging experiences of the school year. For many of my students, this is their first time seeing science in action beyond a textbook.\r\n\r\nAs we approach hatching day, the excitement in the room is electric. Our next steps include comparing embryo development through candling, documenting chick growth after hatching, and reflecting on life cycles and animal care.
