Our students were excited to learn that these supplies were available for everyone to use whenever needed. We use them every day: students sanitize their hands before handling shared equipment, grab tissues without missing instruction, and use pencils to mark rhythms, dynamics, and reminders in their music.\r\n\r\nOne especially meaningful moment was watching a student quietly take a pencil and immediately begin correcting their music instead of feeling embarrassed about arriving unprepared or having to ask a peer to borrow one. These simple resources remove distractions and allow every student to participate confidently. As we continue preparing music for our upcoming performances, students will use these supplies to annotate their parts, refine challenging sections, and become more independent and responsible musicians.","fullyFundedDate":1787320605527,"projectUrl":"project/band-room-basics-supplies-for-success/10345340/","projectTitle":"Band Room Basics - Supplies for Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tordi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10069831_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1751549900828","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tordi"},{"teacherId":10069831,"projectId":10345448,"letterContent":"Our middle school band program distributes an enormous number of papers, from rhythm packets and embouchure guides to music for our performances, and these storage bins have been an absolute game changer for the organization and flow of our classroom. Each drawer has a laminated label, allowing student leaders to quickly find and distribute materials to anyone who needs a new copy.\r\n\r\nWhile we work to teach responsibility, we never want a student to feel ashamed for misplacing a paper or to be unable to participate fully because they do not have the necessary materials. Our band room is truthfully too small for the size of our program, so these efficient, attractive bins help us make the most of every inch of available space. Students love having a clean, organized location for their materials, and they feel empowered knowing they can independently retrieve what they need without interrupting instruction. We are incredibly grateful for this improvement to our classroom and hope to eventually fundraise for additional drawers to organize even more of our materials!","fullyFundedDate":1787320673444,"projectUrl":"project/storage-solutions-in-the-band-room/10345448/","projectTitle":"Storage Solutions in the Band Room","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tordi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10069831_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1751549900828","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tordi"},{"teacherId":10069831,"projectId":10345353,"letterContent":"Thank you so much to DonorsChoose and The Young Sheldon School Initiative for your generous donation of hygiene products for our middle school students. During such an important developmental period in their lives, students now have free and discreet access to essential items that help them feel confident, prepared, and able to focus fully on learning and performing.\r\n\r\nThe supplies are organized in drawers on a small shelf in our band room, and students could not believe that everything was available for them to use whenever needed. We have already seen students grab hair ties before performing at a football game, toothbrushes when needed, menstrual products without having to visit the school nurse, and spray deodorant after arriving at a band performance directly from athletic practice.\r\n\r\nWe also shared this incredible generosity with our band families and assured them that we are here to support their students. Our student leaders are responsible for creating bracelets for current band members and incoming sixth graders. This responsibility means so much to them. It gives them a sense of autonomy and ownership while empowering them to help shape a welcoming, inclusive culture within our program.\r\n\r\nMy students were thrilled when the packages arrived and even more excited when they saw everything organized and ready to use. Since then, they have asked me nearly every day when they can stay after school and begin making bracelets! We have already shared bracelets with members of our administration and teachers celebrating birthdays. We also plan to give them to guest artists and musicians who visit our program, including retired band directors. Throughout the school, students proudly wear their Davidson Band bracelets. They help students from different class periods recognize one another and create a meaningful sense of family, connection, and belonging.\r\n\r\nParents have even reached out to tell us how much they love this idea and to request bracelets they can wear in support of their students! We are so excited to continue this tradition and give every student something tangible that represents their membership in the Davidson Band family. Because of your kindness, our clarinet, saxophone, oboe, and bassoon players are able to take their musicianship to the next level using high-quality reeds that truly make a difference in tone quality, technical proficiency, and student confidence. Your gift has also lifted a tremendous financial burden from many of our families. We have students in our program who would not be able to participate in band without assistance like this, and your support ensures that every child has access to the materials they need to succeed and thrive in music regardless of financial circumstances. Our beginning band students will perform their very first concert in early November, followed by our intermediate and advanced ensembles the following week. Many of these students will be taking the stage using the reeds you donated, sounding their very best and feeling proud of the work they're doing. Your generosity is already making an immediate and lasting impact.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our students and investing in their musical journey!","fullyFundedDate":1752586594002,"projectUrl":"project/reed-all-about-it-reed-funding-for-woo/9444564/","projectTitle":"Reed All About It - Reed Funding for Woodwind Instruments","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tordi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10069831_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1751549900828","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tordi"},{"teacherId":10069831,"projectId":9444595,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of colored paper for our band program! Our students have already put these materials to great use. We printed all of the resources for our \"Band Force\" curriculum on this paper, assigning each level its own color; Level 1 in red, Level 2 in blue, and Level 3 in green. This simple but impactful system has made it significantly easier for students to quickly find the materials they need, stay organized, and transition smoothly during class. Not only has this improved efficiency and reduced lost learning time, but it has also brought a spark of excitement to our students. They love the colorful materials and were thrilled to see everything displayed in the hanging file system on our band room wall. I am actively collaborating with fellow band directors in our county, as well as the professor of Music Education at the University of Florida, to expand, share, and eventually publish this curriculum so it can benefit other band programs across the state.
