For my AICE Marine Science and Biology students, the added invertebrates provided new opportunities to observe real-world examples of animal diversity, adaptations, and ecological roles that we normally only discuss in theory. Students have been able to connect course concepts—such as symbiosis, nutrient cycling, and ecological niches—directly to living organisms in the classroom.\r\n\r\nOn a practical level, the invertebrates have also improved the overall balance of the tanks. The second tank, in particular, has benefitted from enhanced filtration due to the natural cleaning and scavenging behaviors of the new organisms. This has given students the chance to see how living systems can regulate themselves when biodiversity increases, reinforcing lessons about ecosystem stability and interdependence.\r\n\r\nWe are incredibly grateful for this donation. Your support has not only enriched our tanks but also provided students with hands-on, memorable experiences that bring science to life in ways textbooks alone cannot.","fullyFundedDate":1746786435571,"projectUrl":"project/under-the-sea-help-enhance-our-classroo/9262037/","projectTitle":"Under the Sea: Help Enhance our Classroom Saltwater Aquarium","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brodie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9570767_orig.png?crop=314,314,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733456065563","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9570767"},{"teacherId":10020841,"projectId":9325597,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our classroom was buzzing with energy — and not just from the sun! Through the Cooking Up Knowledge project, my students built their own solar ovens and put them to the ultimate test: who could make the best s'more using nothing but the power of renewable energy.\r\n\r\nOnce the materials arrived, teams dove into designing and constructing ovens with reflective panels, insulation, and creative touches to capture as much heat as possible. The atmosphere quickly became both scientific and spirited — students took notes on angles, tested different coverings, and proudly announced every degree of temperature gain.\r\n\r\nWhen it came time to cook, the friendly competition kicked in. As marshmallows softened and chocolate melted, students hovered over their creations, eager to see whose design would heat fastest. Laughter and cheers filled the air as each team presented their s'mores for tasting. It was hands-on learning at its sweetest.\r\n\r\nBeyond the fun, this project deepened their understanding of solar energy, sustainability, and real-world engineering. They left not only with full stomachs, but also with the confidence that they could design, test, and improve something using scientific thinking.\r\n\r\nYour generosity made this joyful, memorable learning experience possible.
