They get so excited when it's class read-aloud time and they get to follow along in one of the additional copies. \r\n\r\nStudents are building their geography and social studies knowledge, along with diving deeper into quality chapter books. Their vocabulary is growing along with their comprehension of fiction literature. They love it when we are learning from our social studies textbooks and they find a connection with one of the National Park books we've read. \r\n\r\nThe National Park books also develop positive social skills and provide great role models for my students. Sharing, compassion, and empathy are just a few attributes that are exhibited in the books.\r\n\r\nSince I've visited a lot of these parks, I'm hoping that I've built interest and desires in my students to also want to travel once they are older and see these places for themselves. There is so much to learn and sometimes the best way to learn it is to experience it! (which is why I also love field trips)\r\n\r\nThank you so much for donating to this grant and making it possible for my class to learn about the United States National Parks without ever leaving our school, and for building stronger readers.","fullyFundedDate":1738441495860,"projectUrl":"project/improving-reading-skills-while-at-the-u/9091807/","projectTitle":"Improving Reading Skills while at the U.S. National Parks","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lloyd","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9225462_orig.jpg?crop=2061,2061,x0,y386&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693342611656","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9225462"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_46520","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":725,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":71,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":91.4,"schoolId":46520,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Chiefland Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Chiefland Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/levy-county-school-district/chiefland-elementary-school/46520"}
