The digital timer clocks added an exciting layer of challenge, teaching them to think under pressure and manage their time—skills that carry over into their academic work.\r\n\r\nOne of the most impactful moments so far was during a lesson on decision trees. We connected chess strategies to computer science by mapping out possible moves and outcomes, helping students understand how algorithms work. Using the game analysis tools, students reviewed past games, identified strong and weak moves, and collaborated to create new strategies. It was amazing to see students leading discussions, teaching one another, and applying logic in real time.\r\n\r\nNext, students will take on a project where they pair up to develop their own annotated chess games, explaining the reasoning behind each move. These reflections will help build their communication and metacognitive skills. We also plan to introduce coding challenges that mirror chess logic, tying everything back to STEM. For Monster Trap, students unleashed their creativity by designing and building traps to capture pesky monsters using simple machines. These projects not only fueled their creativity but also taught them valuable lessons in engineering and collaboration.\r\n\r\nOne of the most memorable moments came during our Going Places activity, where students worked in teams to create mini go-carts and test their designs on a race track. Their enthusiasm and competitive spirit were matched only by their determination to refine their designs. Similarly, in Rosie Revere, Engineer, students crafted loop planes, learning the principles of aerodynamics and testing their inventions to see which design soared the highest.
